Well acording to that the v10 will be a thing of the past. We could take that as a good sign though. Hopefuly this means that the 6.2 will out perform the v10. If it doesnt I am going to know alot of angry people down towards the bottom of this site...

Yah my entire family is totally anti diesel and when it is time to get a new super duty to replace the one we have now, I seriously doubt a 6.2 will suit our towing needs. Even if it is more powerful i am willing to bet it would be in higher rpm's. I might be old fashion but their is no replacement for displacement, the 6.2 cant have the same low end torque that we need. If am one of the people that would be angry, I just dont see them replacing it just yet. O well interesting stuff tho thanks for the link.
If you look around here you will see that Boss can be stroked to about 429 cubic inches. This is the engine that they eventually plan to drop in the Super Duty. Roush has been testing this engine for quite awhile and they even have a mustang with a new 7.0L that is putting out over 700hp naturally aspirated.

That's very interesting that FMC is thinking that the 6.2 will seemlessly replace the 6.8 and be able to perform at that level. I think the 6.8 is a great engine, very thirsty but what a mule! My bother in-law's F-350 with the V-10 will push a ton more snow than his 3500 dodge cummins and get similar mpg's doing it.
Thinking back to when Dodge had a V-10 in their HD trucks, it didn't seem to be in the market place all that long, a few years perhaps.
GM never did market a V-10. The 8.0L V-8 was their work horse but it no longer exists.

Ya and part of the reason that GM and Dodge had problems selling those things was the fact that they had a displacement of over 490ci. Ford's v10 is only 415ci and it makes more hp/tq than both of them.

No the 7.0 is an experimental engine. But that SuperSnakes is pretty cool. I really think that Ford should just use a little bit of that technology in their trucks. They could easily make their new trucks get over 400hp with a 5.4L. But the people want something new and big.

VT had a short stroke big bore 5.4 dohc putting down just over 700hp n/a... getting the same thing out of a 7.0 liter treated to the same manners isn't really impressing me. Then again, I don't think anything Roush ever did, did impress me.

I'm hopeful that this EcoBoost technology (direct-injection, turbocharged) that Ford is going to be applying to its car engines will be applied to truck engines like the coming 6.2L. They tout that a 3.5L EcoBoost v6 can equal the power of a V8. http://media.ford.com/pdf/ecoboost.pdf
An EcoBoost 6.2L in a Super Duty would be able to very adiquitly replace the current 6.8L V10, IHMO. Maybe even give the Diesel offerings a little more run for there money.
That would make those already happy with the power of their V10's even happier.
From what I've read it looks like the engine lineups as currently planned for 2010 or 2011could be:
F150 -- 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 5.0L 3V V8(to replace the 4.6), and the 4.4L Diesel(direct replacement for the 5.4L). I would bet any application of the 6.2L engine in the F150 will be in low volume specialty units such as the Raptor and the Harley.
F250/350 --4.4L Diesel(again direct replacement for 5.4L), a new larger in-house diesel related to the 4.4L to replace the current diesel offerings, and the EcoBoost 6.2L to replace the 6.8 V10.
discuss amongst yourselves.
I'm thinking that the in-house production of the diesel engines could make the premium paid be less. The Diesel offered in the Grand Cherokee, manufactured by Mercedes, is only a $3200 option......
I would hope that the 6.2L would be offered in more than just the harley and the raptor, I would really like that engine in a lower trim level like an XLT, unless the 5.0 can produce over 330 hp. I don't buy trucks for gas mileage. But I do like the sd plan. One could hope that it would be cheaper.
