I don't think Ford has released final hp & tq numbers yet and I highly doubt Ford even knows as of now what the final numbers will be. I honestly wouldn't touch one of the 4.4l or 6.7l diesels that are coming out in 2010 at least until 2 years after they are released. Fords building these engines in their new plant and there are new emmision standards for 2010. I'll keep my truck. Those are impressive numbers though from the Chevy 4.5l diesel.

I dont get why Ford and Chevy is going down in size of liters on there diesels and Dodge keeps bumping the size of there diesels.

4.4 Ford diesel 9% more HP & 15 % more torque than a 5.4 gas? I don't think that compares even close to the Chevy 4.5 diesel spec does it?

We have no clue, because we don't know how much the next 5.4L will be making, so I assume it will be really close with more horsepower.

I doubt they'll even try. Look at the 5.4. They've been building it for years and it's still the most underpowered poor performing engine in it's class.

Ford must have a bunch of idiots designing their engines.

Can somebody PLEASE tell me WHY the GM thinks that we need 1/2 ton trucks that have more HP and torque than the original Duramax LB7?

Sure, it still has the same semi-floating rear axles as every half ton out there but it's got enough torque to haul 6000 lb. in the bed and 20K lbs. on a trailer....."properly equipped" of course.

Aleast it will have enough hp to pull 10,500 pounds up a hill decent. Hopefully it will have 2 modes, an economy, and a tow/performance mode. That would be awesome.

I can see those cute little rear ends blowing apart for sure. Though the power is nice, it is totally unnecessary for a half ton. I also hop they strengthen that fram, because it's going to need it.

I think a power loaded diesel in a 1/2 ton will be the best thing sinced slice bread. Do guys know how many people had to jump up to a 3/4 ton just to pull their camper safely a couple times a year? And why wouldn't you want 25% better mileage? I wouldn't worry to much about the powertrain - GM has been ahead in the that dept. since the inception of the D/A combo.
