Any of the cj4 rated oils will get the job done. I recommend schaeffer's 7000 or 9000 or Chevron's Delo 15w-40.

I'm sure you know this, but your wording was misleading ............ the SAE viscosity rating has no relationship to whether an oil is synthetic or not.

The most common synthetic HDEO's are 5W40, but not all.

Synthetics get the wide viscosity range with fewer VII's due to superior base stock, but there are synthetic 15W 40's.

And to my knowledge Amsoil is yet to be allowed to put the CI4+ API cerification label on their product. They claim to meet applications but show no proof.

I'm running Mobil Delvac 15w40 right now because it was $6/gallon after rebate When that runs out I'll switch to Rotella Synthetic 5w40.

What Amsoil usually does is certify one of thier products not all of them but misleads the public to think they are all certified. Amsoil may be a little greasy in thier practices but they make an oil as good as anyone else. Here is a link showing CI4 oils according to API:

I've had Motorcraft 10W-30(from the factory), Rotella 15W-40, Rotella 5W-40 syn, and Mobil 1 W-40 syn in my 6.0. I do used oil analysis(UOA) at every change. The 2 synthetic 5W-40's gave better wear results with the Mobil 1 a little better. All these oils sheared down to a 30W after 6000 miles so my next change I'll be using Schaeffers 9000 which is also a 5W-40 synthetic. I'll post my results for the Schaeffers when I get them.

I heard the Delo is bad for the strokers because at the high pressure necessary to drive the injectors it foams and causes poor performance and premature injector failure. Shell Rotella tested highest next to caterpillar oil as far as quality etc. in a study I saw so that's what I run. I've never caught onto the synthetic trend. Any thoughts/ recommendations?

As long as you change the oil regularly you won't have problems. I've used the Motorcraft until recently and my Blackstone reports are great.
