Yes, a malfunctioning EGR will make the motor run like ass. But what's this about black smoke, you never mentioned this before. What fuel pressure are you getting on the fuel rail? Is there any gas or gas smell in the vacuum line attached to the fuel pressure regulator? There should not be.
What firing order do you have the plugs wired for?

mcfaddendrafting is starting off with a positive reputation.
the plug wires are correct. I dont know what the fuel pressure is or even how to check it. the black smoke is not constant on when revved up to a high rpm and then let off

well I changed the evp and no change in the performance of this truck. Im ready to stip all the bs smog crap and go to a carburetor. everyone says it runs better with efi but im starting to have my doubts I mean what a hunk a sh#t
