e40d converter

I had my e40d rebuilt and got a reman converter. I can't get the converter to go all the way in. It will go in far enough to turn the pump. as i turned it by hand it pumped some fluid out of the side. put in truck and couldn't turn the motor over by hand. pulled trans back out. put the old one in the trans it went in no problem. the new one just wont slide all the way in. any ideals or tips?

Spin, spin, spin. Have you turned and turned the converter while trying to seat it? It also works better if you stand the trans up, with the bellhousing pointing up.

I just didn't see why the old one would slip right in, but the new one won't. Is it just because it's new?I checked the two with my calipers. the new one is about .004 bigger on the o.d. of the snout. would everything in the pump be that tight to make a differance? or does it have something to do with the splines in the convertor? Just wondering. Thanks for any info.
