Question Information requested...

Hello,

I currently own (but may be selling) my 74 Ford F100 Ranger XLT. I'm gonna miss that beast, but I need something more fuel efficient.

There is a 86 or 89 Bronco II, 4x4, Manual Tranny, with only ONE spot that is rusted out (Passenger Front Quarter Panel). The clutch is dead, but the sale includes a new clutch for the vehicle. And I think it needs some minor exhaust work (might straight pipe it to save time and money). I believe it has the Ford 2.9L (not sure of the intake style though). It's for sale for 400 OBO.

My questions to this forum are as follows...

1. What is the usual gas mileage for a 2.9L after a full tune-up
2. What options came with it between 86 and 89 for fuel injection (carb, mpfi, tbi, etc)
3. How hard is the clutch to change out and what tools will be needed?
4. And is this a good deal?

Thanks for the help.

1. My '87 would regularly get 18-22 mpg.
2. The 2.9 was introduced in '86 and was always multi-port fuel injection. The 2.8 (used up through '85) was carb'ed.
3. I changed the clutch on my '87, and it wasn't too bad. I don't recall needing any special tools. Instructions in Haynes/Chiltons were adequate.

That's not bad gas mileage! So, if it has the 2.9 it WILL be fuel injected? COOL! I am tired of these carburetors. The one I have on my current ford is a problem child. lol. Thanks for the info.
