I have an Alpine 7502 AM/FM cassette with knobs. I was thinking of replacing with a CD player but was first a little curious about this Alpine.
After searching the internet this stereo is going from $75 to $125 and is considered "Old Skool"...a much wanted stereo and something that "Fresh Prince" talked about. What he talked about I have no clue.
My wife says I should just leave it alone since it works great and just get a cassette adapter for the mp3 player if I want to listen to recorded music.
Why is this old cassette deck stereo that someone wants so much that for a few bucks more can buy something more up to date? Why is it so popular?

Since you mentioned it has knobs I am guessing it is the old shaft style radio that has a small face in the center and then the two knobs on the outside. It has a faceplate to fit in a single DIN location, or it can be installed in older vehicles that take the shaft style radio.
The latter is probably why it is worth more money. It is getting harder and harder to find nice shaft style radios. And in many older cars, that is all you can install unless you put them in a different location like under the seat or in the glovebox. Otherwise you have to cut the dash, which people do not want to do to old cars. If you can fit a regular DIN stereo in your vehicle, and don't see yourself restoring an old car anytime soon, then I would suggest you sell the radio and help out someone who is trying to restore an old vehicle, but still wants quality sound. (I know when I get around to restoring my '66 Mustang I'll be looking for a nice shaft style stereo to install).

Thanks ya all! That is kinda what I was thinking. I am old school myself...heck, I will have my 30 years in and can retire in a few months but plan on staying around a little longer just to irritate everyone. It is true that thinks were not made like they were back in the old days. It is a solid stereo that probably could be update with better speaker and wires. The speakers in there now are Tenvox (12w).
Wish the old days were back...especially when I hear the song "Back When" by Tim McGraw.
I love my records
Black, shiny vinyl
Clicks and pops
And white noise
Man they sounded fine
I had my favorite stations
The ones that played them all
Country, soul and rock-and-roll
What happened to those times?
I miss being a child of the '60s ... the old school rock 'n roll, big blocks with cherry bombs, cheap gas, Woodstock, the draft, Joplin/Stones/Jimi, Dylan, Baez, the Doors...and the Green Bay Packers.

Reason: Fat fingered before finishing what had to say....
I had picked up a turntable that will convert vinyl to digital by hooking it up to your computer. There is software to eliminate the hiss and pops but do not need to use it if want to keep those in. I have not used it yet but plan to soon. The idea is to take what I hear from the vinyl and have that same sound play on a cd. Have both LP and 45s to copy. Will keep you all posted on how that turns out.
