Question Distributor Question?

Can anybody tell me what a vintage "Mallory Reverse Polarity Dual Point Distributor" is? Is it in some way different than a stock configuration Dist?

I believe old Marine Y Blocks had a reverse firing order? Would this be for that application?

Could it be used on the vintage Y Block I'm rodding for my 55 F100?

Thx, David

The old Mallory "Rev-Pol" distributors used two sets of points on a 4 lobe cam for V8s. They used a special coil with 1 positive and 2 point terminals if my memory is correct. One set of points was connected to each terminal. Reverse polarity actually referred to the spark output, much like the DIS systems with 2 plug coils, half are positive output, half are negative output. If you want to use it with anything other than the original Mallory coil, be sure both point sets are connected, and only use 1 condenser. For best results you need a distributor machine to synchronise the points.

Thx Bill,

Thats the best education a fellow could expect. I let that Dizzy pass cause I couldn't identify application considerations. I'm still keeping my eye out for the right vintage Distributor for the Y-Block I'm rodding Old sKool.

Keep it Kool, Keep it Old Skool. David
