Hey Guys...total BS thread

Hey guys, this is a total BS thread that I figured would be proper because this is my 400th post, I have a 400 and this is a 400 forum. At least so this thread pertains to something...what are some of your favorite mods that you've made to your 400 or wish you could make? What kind of power numbers have you noticed? And anything else you feel like saying about the 400 in general. I thought this could be fun.

My mods:
Eddy performer Intake, Holley 650 cfm carb, .030 over, Sanderson headers, XE 256 cam

Soon to be made mods:
Tim Meyer Stroker kit, New set of heads, new distributor, new ignition setup and whatever else sounds good from what you guys post.

Shooting for 500 hp don't know what it is right now, shooting for 500 ft/lbs don't know what it is right now.

hmmm, ill be posting my results once i get my built as i wanted it, right now 10:1 scr, stock heads mildly ported big intake valves 2.19", single plane small port intake, 750 edelbrock performer and a crane cam too agresive: it has 282 int and 290 ext with a centeline of 113 and itk ovelrap 114 taking my dcr to 7.4:1, not so good, so im planning on geting an exteme energy xe274h, which gives me 7.8:1 and way greater numbers on my sym, ofcorse my build is not intended for a truck, its for a 73 mustang, so dont need an rv cam fro the extreme low torque. Anywayswith a water prob on my 8 cylinder y could burnout my car with out a brake or nothing and with 3.00 gears, pretty cool.... just for fun and experience!

I'm thinking about the rebuilding the 400...or junk the truck and buy a 92-97.

Even though it's smoking oil, it still has plenty of power. It's been running rough for a year, but still runs. Dang!

My 400 is .030 over, ex-256 cam and match spring, conversion kit for roller rocker, aussie head, double row timing chain from comp cam(straight up) stock oil pump and shaft, rebuilt 400 crank .010 under, cam and crank bearing, performer 400 with 600 cfm edelbrock. At this point my head need a good rebuild. I didn't know tim when i bought my piston. Maby i'm gonna remove my piston and buy tim piston for aussie head. With my set-up right now i'm suppose to have arround 320 hp and 440 torque. I should go with a bigger cam from extreme energy to give me 50+ hp.

yup those are expensive addons, but will help you alot, what i dont get is why are you using that cam if you are running it under a light mustang 81, you wont be towing, you could go higher and still smoke the tires and thus good mid range hp(55k), my opinion

How much does a typical 351M/400 rebuild cost? It will remain a truck engine, so HP is not critical. Looking to improve its performance from near-death factory smogged rates. Maybe just some headers, intake, and a 4bbl.

Well those 3 things could run you right around 1500. When mine was freshened up I put about 3 grand into it and then goodies ran/are running me about another 2 grand and soon to be a Tim Meyer stroker kit which will run another 2500 or so. Depending on whether or not you do the work yourself like on something I did you could probably add another 1000-2000 in labor depending on the shop.

That averages out to just 200 bucks per goody...to be honest if I'm gonna put goodies on there aren't too many sets of good headers I would consider under 350 minimum, a really good carb can run as much as 5-600, intake right around 300. So if you want the bluelight specials or are patient and search and search and search for the right deal or the right buddy just has the part you want lying around you're right...you can get it for 600...but I believe if you're goin with good quality, long lasting, true performance parts...you're staring $1100 in the face easy.

a new edelbrock or holley carb 250, new intake(weiand holley etc.) 199 and header yeah around 350, yeah well a bit abouve 600 but not even a 1000, and i consider this good parts, but besides this i think its way better to spend more money on your bottom end and a Tim stroker kit sounds as a great choice....

hollenjoe, when i order my cam, the guy, supposely to be a specialist in cam choice, recomend me a ex-256. I said i want the bigger cam but he said i would not have enough vacum for the brake ? He said in a long term i would be more happy with that cam. The mustang gonna see more street than strip. Weekend car.

hmmm the cam choice of the felow for you in my opinion was more based on the fact that you`re using the low cr pistons, once you upgrade to the high cr you can go without any trouble to a bigger cam, now look at my setup im running a long duration cam, im smoking the tires have a great iddle and a very soft good responsvie power brakes.. im moving to a smaller cam but bigger than yours the xe274h wich gave me the best results on the dyno sym considering my also street aplication and the 10:1 scr... just my advice, hey are you using your stock 8" differential?

I have the 8" and also a 9 " from a 84 truck but i didn't check the gear ratio yet. I want to run like this, then adjust my gear ratio or diff. for my driving habbit. I want high gear to play with that torque. I don't want to make it rev high. I really don't know how my set up is gonna work.

WOW I just came from driving for the first time around the city with my 73 tang with my freshly rebuilt 400, AMAZING Im impressed, Im now dealing with traccion problems, I snapped half a the gas pedal and burned tires for like 7 ft, it went from 2000-4000 rpm spinning te wheels then stopped and reved to 6k really easily, when the c6 changed to 2nd some wheel spinning ocurred and almost hit a car next to me due to the open diff, had to lay off the gas pedal jeje LOL, I was stoo scared to push the whole gas pedal in, im really impressed, hehehe the engine is stilll in breaking in period so the temp stood steady at 188 and pinged very rarely, im running 12 initial and gonna back it up to 10, anyways amazing a soon as i have painted my car i will make a video of it, im also gonna use the stock 8" rear with 3.00 gears till they break down, for now its holding.... heheh total bs
