im seriously thinking about running wmo i have about 1.5 55 gallon drums of waste motor oil right now, if i set up a filtering system filter down to 1-2 mircrons and run blended with diesle fuel probably going to start at a low blend somthing like 20percent and maby move up from there. i have an 96psd is there anything else i should do when i try this.

 

Put $$$$$$$$$$$ away for a new ENGINE????????????

 

can someone please elaberate on this, it seems to me if it is filtered down to atleast what diesle is filtered and then mixed how is it going to harm my engin? the extra btu's? it seems like if that were the case then #2 would give you a shorter life expectancy than number 1

WMO contains the byproducts of combustion, fine particles of metals, and acidic compounds that CANNOT BE JUST FILTERED OUT. You MIGHT get by for a while with a IDI engine, but definitely not something you'd want in a Powerstroke!! If you still want to try it send a sample of the WMO to Blackstone Labs for an analysis. The results will change your mind............

 

I run wmo in my idi but would never do it to a power stroke. I work on power strokes for a living and know what replacement parts cost me and they are not cheep like idi's. Thats the main reason I still own one the the old school diesels. I could see dumping your oil change back in the tank but not running it all the time. remember reman injectors are about $250. ea.

it seems to me in reading the topic thats posted earlyer in this thread that everyone who has had problems were running it un filtered other than the trucks filter and were running higher concentrations

 

I have talked with a few folks about this, as well as read the threads listed above, and similar threads on other sites. Some say they have been doing it for a while with no issues...one or two have had problems.

I spoke with our Cummins rep at work about used hydraulic oil and transmission fluid. His answer was " not a problem ".......as long as you have a non-emissions vehicle.

Another friend of mine who has been a diesel mechanic most of his life told me the hyd fluid and tranny fluid, if properly filtered ( and ran at 25-30% ) should add to the life of the IP and injectors.

Now, feel free everyone, to jump in and kick me in the nuts on my comments above. I AM NOT saying this is or isn't accurate. These are simply opinions of people I know. So take it for what it is worth.

I have about 50 gallons of used hydraulic oil with about 3 gallons of WMO mixed in it. I have been filitering the living chit out of it the past couple weeks. I'm taking the truck on a 1500 mile trip this weekend with the rear tank blended at 25-30%. I'll let you know how it goes.

 

well i dont realy have a good source for used tras and hydro fluid, but ill be interested to hear the results of your trip

 

I personally run a mixture of 80% trans and 20% diesel in the summer and more diesel in the winter(50/50). Have been doing this for 3 years now at about 34 gallons of the mix a week. To date ZERO problems a quieter engine and not quiet as good milage. However, if you do the math with what I use, and how much it would cost with just diesel and no mix I am saving a huge chunk of money! Infact we figured it out, and in one year I save enough to pay for a new motor and still have money left over! That is by using the tranny mix though. I know I'm crazy and an idiot to some, but my wallet, a little fatter and happier, just smiles at you!

 

The trip wasn't nearly 1500 miles....closer to 900..what was I thinking.

The truck ran fine....great actually. I noticed no difference in performance. Mileage was very similar to straight diesel...maybe a touch higher in the 14-15mpg range... And I saved $80 round trip. I don't wanna talk about what I DID pay...it still hurt.

 

I have been running WMO in my IDI for the past coupld of years with no problem either. i do filter it multiple times down to 1 mic and the stronget mix i have run is about 50/50. it smokes a little more and stinks some but i am saving allot of money. my IP and injectors have about 180,000 on them and were already worn from when i got them so i figured i didnt have much to loose. so far it has been all gain.

 

Hydraulic Fluid and Tranny fluid will probably be the best, they are thinner, around SAE 20 Weight oils, as opposed to the 30 and 40 weight cars and trucks use.

 

Are you running this in a powerstroke or pre-powerstroke? Sounds interesting.
