Rim/Tire Recomendations for my 350!!!

Need to find new rims and tires for the truck. Probably going to grab an Icon 4.5" lift too. I'm open to anything as of right now...probably want 20's for rim size...not sure of width or backspacing? and I want the tires to fill the wheel well...will 36's fit?

I have seen the Mickey Thompson Classics on a white lifted 350 and really liked the look of the rims..maybe because they look like stock?

I want them rims and tires to stick out a bit and look aggressive...I really like this look. opinions? options?

Most go with 35s under the Icon 4.5". You can squeeze 36s with the right tire wheel combo (as long as they aren't 36/15.50s...those will not fit without cutting or more lift).

4.5" lift, 35" Nitto:

4.5" lift, 35" Toyos:

4.5" lift, 35" Kumhos:

I would agree with this statement, seems to be very popular. I went with the 3 inch dr hanger kit, because I didnt want to run 35's I was running 295/75/16 now I am running 315/70/17 and get a slight rub at full lock.

~4.5" Backspacing with 10" wide wheels get that look with the tires sticking out a good amount.

With 35s you may have some slight rubbing.
Under a 4.5" lift, they clear.

By pushing the wheel/tire further outboard, does this have any effect on the bearing, etc.? Also, I have 3.73 gears. Would I be able to run 35" tires without overstressing/damaging the tranny or any other link in the driveline?

Thanks,

Later...

Going to a 35" tire with 3.73 gears will not hurt the motor, tranny, or driveline at all. You will notice a little drop in power and mileage but that is all.

Going with a wheel that sits out further will put more stress on the wheel bearings, I have been running my wide setup for 35k. mi. with no problems but I am planning to switch over to the Dynatrac 2005 - 2007 Ford Free-Spin Hub Conversion Kit to add reliability for the future!!!

Yes, the wider you go on the wheels and the less backspacing increases your scrub radius which does place more stress on unit bearings, ball joints, TRE's, DRE's, etc..
10" wides with 4.5" B.S and a 35/12.50 won't put a huge deal of stress on those components. A buddy/customer of mine just had his unit bearing go out at 105,000 miles running on 36.5/13.50R22s most of those miles.

With 35s (on a diesel) I think they run fine with 3.73s. I'd only regear if you tow pretty heavy, often.

I'd go with 20s or 18s, more tire choices over 17s and 22s.
Lots of people go with 20s.
