CB Mounting... Antenna Mounting... Wiring Questions...
#31
I mounted my CB in my lower door pocket, and ran my wires through the wire duct to the inside of the cab. I do keep a showercap over the CB. I dont have room in the center, as I have a 6 Spd, with manual x-fer case.
There is a rubber plug at the rear of the cab which you can run the antenna wire through. It is low, right behind the rear seat. (do you have the x-cab?)
The radio is out of my way, and the speaker is aimed into the cab, so I can hear it, as my truck is pretty loud. My antenna is mounted to the side of the toolbox, but my old antenna was a mag over the cab.
I will try to get a pic or two.

I used this mount.
Firestik SS294A Pickup Truck Stake Hole Antenna Mount Walcott CB - CB Radio Super Store and Mobile Electronics Warehouse. at WalcottCB.com
I only used the mount base. I removed the 3/8 x 24" Antenna Stud w/ PL259 connector to allow for antenna cable. I drilled out the four mounting screws holes, so I could use flat head screws. The original ones did not sit flush and would not allow for a clean connection for the coax and the antenna base. I also had to trim alittle of my bed rail liner to allow it to sit flush.
Here is a close up of the mount during my dry run to see how it all fit.

I love the antenna mount through the cowl....I just may have to change mine around!! But here is a pic of my radio mount...... Although your is an 08....not sure if your dash opening is large enough....and you would have to switch to an aftermarket stereo if it is.....But just another idea.
I like this one. I like cleaned and concealed. Looks more custom. Now I think I need to do it although being a truck driver I would need a CB with more power and with a built in amp I dunno if it would fit with aftermarket radio. I need to see how big the hole is on the inside of the dash.

For those who've gone with mounting to the cab, do you have to drop out the headliner? I'm in process of installing mine. I've got a K40 mounted to the tool box (on it's 3rd truck now). I routed the cable in through a plug in the cab floor where the prev owner already made me a nice hole in the carpet.
I previously had the radio mounted to my dash in the 97 and before that on a bracket I made that had a stack of radios in my 78. I like the look of putting it on the panty hook bolts or the headliner, which I'll do if I don't have to drop the liner out.

Just had to trim the openings a little for the CB to fit the kit, and a little trimming on the dash opening. Had to shave the top and bottom flange just inside the dash for a full double-din opening.

I don't use one often enough to hard mount a CB. In my Jeep TJ I have a Cobra 75 setup for trail use, but generally in the truck I only use a CB in a convoy.
With that in mind, I bought a simple Cobra HH Road Trip package, a great little handheld CB which comes with a little stub antenna as well as a magnet mount you can pop on top of the cab. Run it into the cab with the door open, close the door, and you're good to go. Then the other 99% of the time when I don't need it, it's not in the way. I will probably pick up a better remote antenna, though. The one that comes with it is barely adequate.
