I hope you will have trouble free miles for many miles to come once this ordeal is finally over. What a major bummer though, vacation time is very precious.
currently planning a 5000+ mile trip, this time will be towing a 28'er and I will let everyone know if the truck has any glitches.
Hey, tell your boss at work that your truck has ruined your vacation so you are requesting another.

It's probably a Job #2 build then. I was just curious if there was any build we could find that had more issues than others.

BTW mine is a Job #2 as well.

(When he went to move it Tuesday morning when it was cold, it fired right up.) He said it was a good thing we stopped, because otherwise we could have blown up the whole engine if the pump blew out while it was running. He said they need to pull the whole engine out to get to the part that needs replacing. If they finish it this week, I guess we'll go pick up both the truck & the 5'er on Saturday, and bring 'em both home. What a waste of time and FUEL that will be.

I have replaced dozens of STC fittings, and I would recommend finding someone else to work on your truck after reading what the guy working on your truck said. He doesn't seem to have a clue what he is talking about.

It takes me about 2-2 1/2 hours to replace the fitting, but Ford has just come out with an updated TSB for this concern. There is a new fitting that does not require the bracket "band aid" anymore. I'm not sure whether or not the new parts kit is available yet, but I plan on checking when I get back to work tomorrow.

Good luck.

Kepler,

How do you tell if your truck is a Job 1 or 2 and what is the difference. You can PM me so I donbt Hi Jack the thread. Sorry if I already did. I hope that you get your truck fixed. Looks like you like to get out and ride. Nice to see some other Mountain Bikers on her too.

If I were you, I'd dump that truck. After ruining more than 1 vacation, it would be gone for sure. You don't trust it and look at how many problems you have already had. Do you really think it will ever be fixed correctly? I doubt it. It seems like the more these engines are apart, the more they break down in the future.

Trade it in on anything else. Ford, Dodge, Chevy, whatever. Gas or diesel, just not another 6.0. Even a 90s Dodge won't have as many transmission problems as you've have engine problems. Just my opinion.

I'm glad you asked !
Here's what the paperwork says:

"Ran system test code P2291 for low ICP pressure. Engine will not start when hot. Ran PID Test. Removed both valve covers and both oil rail. Found one O-ring on stand pipe is damaged. Reinstalled. Retest. Also found leak at high pressure oil pump. Replaced adapted and fitting. Found EGR Cooler leaking. Topped off fluid."

The parts replaced were:
4C3Z*9B246-A Kit - Flexible Pipe Connection
VC*7*B Antifreeze
TA-29- Sealant - Silicone
-W301390* "O" Ring
4C3Z-9P456*AF Cooler - EGR
So.... it has been running okey dokey since I got it last Saturday. They did charge me a $100 deductible that they didn't tell me about up front, since I'm 1,328 miles over the 36,000 limit. We took it up to Sequoia National Park the day we picked it up and it never had any problems starting. It towed the trailer fine on the way home.

I took it into the local Ford dealer this week for an oil change & tire rotation, since we are heading out of state next week. They did a visual check on everything that was fixed out of town and said nothing was leaking, so keeping my fingers crossed!!! The service advisor was worried that they may have replaced the EGR Valve out of town (but I don't think they did????), because locally they had received several boxes of bad ones and had to send them all back.

Now, if I can just somehow justify paying $4.85/GAL for fuel for this rig, we should have a nice trip to Moab!!! (No lie, that's what the Shell station by my house is selling it for. That sucks!)

Having a good / competent dealership is worth its weight in gold. Sounds like you have gotten the nagging things fixed and hopefully you are in for a long run of reliability.

I guarantee you that you came out ahead by fixing it vs. an emotional decision to trade it in. You would have lost thousands w/ the trade-in!
