5.0 Efi Q?

I'm looking to go fuel injection on my EB.
I was just wondering what cars are the best to pick up the parts i need.
I have access to alot of late 80's - early 90's Lincons and Mercs fullsize.
Are these good cars to get the parts i need to go EFI or do i need to find a Mustang set up? I have also heard there is a speed density set up or a mass air flow set up. Mass air flow is better right? I know this is a commen upgrade i just haven't done one myself yet. SO any help would be great.
thanks.

Some of those Lincoln's may have SEFI 5.0HO motors in them, if so this is what you want. Grab everything you can, computer, complete engine wiring harness, air ducting and filter box, sensors, vacuum lines, solenoids.. anything you see on the motor that's not on your carb'd motor. Don't forget the O2 sensors in the exhaust system.

The Lincoln LSC from 86-92 will have the same HO version of the 5.0 that was in the Mustangs.

Most Lincolns and full size Mercury's will have the standard 5.0. I believe that they are all batch fire, speed density systems. They will make good EFI canidates if you don't plan on any engine mods. The easy way to tell the difference between a standard and a HO engine is the firing order. The standard 5.0 will have the same 1-5-4 firing order as the early 302. The HO's have the 351W 1-3-7 firing order.

In stock form, there is not much difference between a SD system and a MAF system. Both will give you good performance. I've found that the speed density systems tend to have better idle characteristics. If you plan on engine mods such as better heads, intake, cam, or a major displacement increase, you want a Mass Air Flow system. You can also convert your SD to MAF with aftermarket kits available.

If you do a search for fuel injection in this forum, you should come up with quite a bit of information. If you're really serious about a swap and learning about Ford EFI systems, this is the book to get Barnes*&*Noble.com - Books: Ford Fuel Injection and Electronic Engine Control, by Charles O. Probst, Paperback
It has a lot of useful information including some wiring diagrams. Great book. I've worn mine out.

thanks guys that is the kind of info i was looking for. Lincoln's of that era are easy to find in my area and usualy are left alone in the junk yards.

Jason, I will have to check out that book. I'm always looking for good info.

I was wondering also, dose anyone make a braket for the clutch linkage to install a newer rollor block into a eb? I'm been told and looked for myself that the block dosen't have the clutch linkage mounting. But, i would like to find a car and just take everything and swap it into my eb.
As for the upgrades i was thinking of just doing a mild cam. Everything else stock. Would that still work with the SD system or should i just look for the MAF system?
Thanks again.

If you have access to a welder, you can make one very easily with some
1/4"x 3 flat bar.
Leave your bellhousing mounted to your original engine. Bolt the clutch bracket to it and then make a pattern to tie into one or both of the adjacent bellhousing bolts and have it welded to the bracket. I can get a couple of pictures of mine if you need to see.

If you plan on even a mild cam, I would search specifically for an SEFI engine, either SD or MAF. The HO MAF engines have been picked over pretty good, so you will probably have better luck looking for both. You can always do a conversion to MAF.

Jason I think i have an idea of what you described for the braket. A picture would be great whenever you have time. I'm in no rush.
This hole EFI, roller block set up is going to be my summer project. That and getting some paint sprayed on the body. I figured i would do the engine while the body was off the frame.
