I have a big dilemma...

Let me start by saying I love my F450.

With 4:88s, my mileage is horrendous, averaging 8.5 in the city unloaded with 19K+ miles on it. I get 275-300 miles per tank, and with the price of diesel, its becoming increasingly more difficult to justify keeping the truck.

I recently sold my 30' car transport trailer, since I'm not taking my cars to shows the way I used to, and that's why I bought the F450-it was to tow the trailer.

If I can't get some substantial increase in MPG, I need to sell the truck. Problem is, now it seems the used market on these trucks is in the toilet.
Every used F450 I see on ebay hasn't hit over 35K. I wouldn't mind taking
a slight loss to sell the vehicle, but 35K is too much of a hit.

My questions are: Is there a RELIABLE dpf delete/programmer setup that will substantially increase mileage? it's the only way I can see keeping the truck....AND anyone have any success selling a 450 in the used market???

Any comments or advice is appreciated....

Wait for spartan to release there stuff. Matt (Owner) is getting awsome mileage (20+ mpg) driving like a bat out of hell. his isn't a dually though but even if you only get 15mpg thats still a hell of alot better than 8.5.

Hell, getting 15 mpg would cut my diesel expense almost in half. I spend about 750 a month for diesel, and thats at current prices. Any ideas when Spartan's stuff is supposed to be out? I can't wait another 4-6 months in current conditions with this truck.

Think about it-F450 with 4.88s, there is no way it's going to get good mileage.

I know it'll never be great, and when I bought it, I had no idea diesel would be $4.40 a gallon and climbing. I ordered my truck in 12/06 when it was about $2.10 a gal. Factor in that and the collector car market taking a plunge, and suddenly I can't justify (or afford) the operating costs to keep my truck and trailer.

My 450 spends a lot of time sitting in the Garage too. Ordered with 4.88's but after reading posts on FTE changed it after 2 weeks to 4.30's Bought it for towing our 5ver. Bought an Escape for our daughter getting her learners permit last October and have put 10,000 miles on it. Been peddling to the Gym also. I would suggest buying a used gas sipper and try to sell you 450 in the mean time. You could find the right buyer in time.

I DEFINITELY haven't ruled that out. I've thought about parking the 450 and getting something more economical. This is the first time EVER I've actually had to be concerned with fuel mileage and what it costs me to operate a vehicle.....it sucks.

Hey I have 2 2008 Super Dutys one F350 and one F450 with the 4.88s. I love the 450 for towing my stock trailer, I get about 8.5 towing and as high as 12.8 empty city hwy driving. it only has abot 3k on it. my F350 CC 4X4 automatic has 3.73 and it gets about 16.5 mixed empty and about 9.5 mpg towing the same loaded stock trailer.

I am waiting for Spartain Diesel to release his newest DPF delete tuner, but I think the only rig its going to help is the F350, unless I change my gearing to 4.30's in the F450.

My point is if you need a rig to tow this is it! believe me I hate like hell giving a,most $5.00 per gallon here in WA to the crooks in Washington DC, but what am I going to do? can't stop hauling my cattle.

Why did gasoline make it’s most dramatic rise in price after the Democrats took over Congress in 06?

Is it true that “Big Government” makes more in taxes off of oil than “Big Oil” makes in profits? If this is true then instead of the Congress having hearings on “Big Oil” profits why doesn’t “Big Oil” have hearing about high taxes and price gouging by greedy politicians?

Nuf said!
