According to Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control by Charle E. Probst, SAE, "Ford was the first to go all the way, with virtually 100% fuel injection in passenger cars and trucks since 1987. By 1988, most Ford engines inject the fuel to each individual cylinder intake-port." You can still buy a Chovit with throttle body injection, Like A Rock.
I have a '88 F-250 351W and its EFI. I think that was the first year but I'm not for sure either. I would assume that since the redesigned it in '87 that thats when they started but who knows. I dont think 460s ever got EFI
Well I looked at a '92 or '93 that had the 460 and it had the old air breather on it. Thats why I assumed it didnt have the EFI. I wouldnt want a 460 now. Gas is way too much now.
i;ve worked on a 1985 f150 that had a 302 and fuel injection. it was probably built shortly before the 1986 models. i'm assuming that most 302, 351 were fuel infected after that.
I was told by a Ford Dealership two days ago, that Ford Built the 302 with EFI starting in early 1986, and they didn't start building the 351W with EFI until 1988. That was for pick-ups and bronco's.
They did put EFI in some of there more exspensive cars in the late 80's.
