Lightbulb XE258hr cam

I put this cam (XE258HR) in my 302 setup with eddie 1.90/1.60 valve heads, dualplane intake, small tube headers, and 600cfm carb in destop dyno 2000 and got some awesome torque numbers down low at flywheel. I figured this cam would be a great upgrade for a 302 powered truck especially making it easier to spine the tires...what you guys think of this cam? If any of you got the destop dyno stuff try this cam out with a mild setup like I had and see if it tells the same story. My dyno was a cheap/free download I got from somewhere I can't remember. I got like 350 hp and like 380-390 tq on my dyno with 9.0 compression

I'll run the numbers on my copy later, but I suspect your copy is being painfully optimistic. Exactly what Edelbrock heads are they(part #)? They have too many versions and they all flow different numbers. FWIW I don't see a carburated 302 making anywhere near that much TQ at what I would consider to be low rpm.. under 3000rpm.

they are the 60229 RPM versions with no egr stuff (http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_.../flow_data.pdf).
I beleive the torque peaked at like 4000rpm but there was at least 340 lbs of torque at like 2500rpm from what I remember, I'm on a different computer right now or I would tell you exactly what it said but I will be later today and I'll give you the info it told me

sorry I didnt specify before, I ment to say there was a peak hp of 350 and a peak of 380 ish tq. But still the torque was impressive below 3000rpms. The XE258 cam has a nickname I have found on the web as "a stock cam on steroids" lol

I'll have to double check the heads I used again to make sure they were the right ones.. but I got 350ft/lbs from 3500-4500rpm and 325hp at 5500rpm. That's pretty good.. TQ output drops off below 3500rpm but that's life with a carb.. they just don't do low rpms like EFI can.

Cool, what was the torque at 1000-3000rpm. But hey what if the compression was bumped to say 9.5 or even 10.1 wouldn't that make a big difference?
