Do we need more horsepower? I don't think so...but hey...it's what sells these beasties...but now Ford is starting to realize that their bread and butter is gonna have to go on a diet, I think...so...
I think the shelving of the Ranger is either going to get postponed or remade into an F-100 perhaps. They will need a good truck with the ability to get people the mileage that they are wanting/needing. Some of the overseas Rangers that have diesels would be the thing to bring over or to use, as was suggested in another thread a gas/electric hybrid that is scaled up from the Escape.

Sounds like FMC better figure out how Honda and Toy are getting 39-40 MPG's from thier corrolas and civics and duplicate quickly.

When we go into an all-out depression prices will fall. The bad thing is no one will have a job or vehicle to put fuel into. We have too many "oil men" in Washington right now to change anything so hang on.
Necessity is the mother of invention. I hope for the worlds sake they are not pushing America into a corner. We will come out victorious. What we have is a eroding economic system. Will you go to another currency if the dollar becomes paper? I think you will to eat and survive. That would also nullify social security benefits. The government likes this. I am not being political. McCarthy was right you should research it.

That's just sickening.....don't know what else to say.
There's no reason for gas to be at $4.00 a gallon right now.... why should it jump to $10 gallon
IF the US stopped importing oil, and opened all states to drilling, then the US would have enough oil for about 30 years. That doesn't include off shore drilling, or all the oil in other countrys, and some that haven't even attempted drilling. There are more alternative fuels being used, more hybrid/electric cars being made, and the Feds are forcing auto manufactuors to increase overall MPG of all vehicals.
That's a educated guess (don't remember who wrote it.... read it in a paper a while back).
So there isn't as much of a shortage as everyone is being made to believe.
Not that it's my place to judge, but I'm thinking the Large oil company owners are going to burn down below for ripping off everyone like this.

Can you say: BOGGER!
The American dollar is already paper; worth about as much as the the ink that it is printed with. Since there is nothing to back up our currency (gold, silver, platinum), we might end up having to boil and eat our money to survive.
Some real facts to live by. China is ADDING more than 400K new cars/truck annually to its infrastructure. India is doing about the same. Russia is awash in cash due to their natural gas supplies and are buying cars as fast as they can be produced. What's this mean for the world's oil supply? 87 million barrels per day being produced, 86 million barrels being consumed. SOONER rather than later this supply/demand equation is going to revert. And then oil will be closer to $200 than $100. And remember China has a $2.50 price freeze "ceiling" on gas prices. So they, the Chinese are paying about 30% LESS than we Americans. This inequity will mean MORE not LESS driving in China. More bad news for America. Last but not least, China is on a economic binge GDP growing at 10%. Many very wealthy people there as a result. The Cadillac Escalade can’t be produced fast enough over there. So I think it’s a pretty simple sure bet that gasoline will be >$5 very quick-like in America.
The American dollar is already paper; worth about as much as the the ink that it is printed with. How true. Was going to Italy this summer but NOT now. The Euro is "inhaling" the greenback. What's that say about America on a worldwide basis? Not much, not much.
i had posted on the other site about opec said they had no control of their oil prices; now there is a way to make oil from coal as i heard from glenn beck on cnn so montana is making oil from coal but others can't stsrt because the gov has a carbon limit or law but whatever the usa has 800 million tons of coal plenty to get by just got the gov to let business to start making oil an go from there oh there was a thing about the interest rate of the fed dropping the value of the dollar having lots to do with oil prices going up as the vaslue of the dollar goes down if they raised the rate just 1 point i think oil would stop going up as well as gas prices maybe coming down we can't drill fast enough to help now but prime rate going up can be done and that is the answer;oh beter stock up on dry goods as they will go up.good luck as my disability check falls short.i heard that the value of the dollar going down reduces their ss payment debts as well it gets crazy or complicated we need cheap fuel

Its too late for that the focus and corrola already get the same mileage at 35 mpg and the civic only gets 1 more mpg , and the fusion hybrid is launching later this year as an '09
No E-85? I know that there are other alternative fuels out there. Some of which are petroleum based. But if the EPA would let us do "conversions" to our vehicles I would have the ECU reprogrammed on my '96 F-250 to run on E-85 so that I could make my own fuel.
As it stands it does not look like they are going to do that so I may have to accelerate my plans and put my '71 F-250 back on the road with either a rebuilt 390 or a newer 7.3 Turbo Diesel. Either way I can make my own fuel at a cost of about $1.50 to $2 per gallon.
I would love to see more of the diesel rangers around. One of my old bosses had one and it was great on fuel and was a real go-getter.
As far as the electric hybrids go, I would love to see one attempt to haul what I have with my truck. I would probably buy tickets for that
But yea, I expect gas prices to hit $4 a gallon but the end of the year. more likely by the end of this summer. So I too will likely be getting a Harley for the majority of my traveling. Unless I have to haul anything of course.
At the same time I will not be getting rid of any of my three trucks.
