Re: Lindsay Williams video, I found it enlightening. I have heard in the mainstream media that the Saudi's are buying our debt. As are the Chinese. So why is the rest of his story kept such a secret? He didn't seem like a crackpot, but is his getting dismissed as a crackpot kept him alive thus far? Just another conspiracy theorist?
What doesn't quite set right with me is he has an agenda for book sales. At $139.95 a copy. But on the other hand, his books are probably his only means of income and he's had them printed by a "vanity press" at considerable cost to himself.
It was interesting that though the video was recorded a year or two ago, he accurately predicted gasoline prices at $4 a gallon. As well as our ability to absorb the cost and keep on with our lives.

I'm gonna take a wild stab and say that the environmentalist treehugging crowd has a lot more pull in the government than you think. Why do you think all the CAFE regulations, the ridiculous EPA requirements, the crackdown on diesels, etc? Do you seriously think Bush cares whether we get 20mpg or not?
but hey, a buncha blind following dips think Al Gore is the greatest man since sliced bread, and a lot of them are in the house right now...

I was kind of thinking the same thing. That the whole global warming thing kind of plays right into the hands of those that Williams say are manipulating oil prices. That is, the higher oil prices get, the more willing people are to tolerate it if they believe they can fight back against it by using alternative green energy sources.

Agree completely. The CAFE standards / regualtions are ridiculous. They keep raising the numbers, soon they'll expect Ford F-450s and F550s to get 45 MPG city, forget it's weight and what it's designed to do.
All their CAFE standards accomplish is passing on higher manufacturer costs to the consumer. That's us.
It makes me laugh, these politicians set these standards, and they are the ones using government jet planes to criss-cross the country, using more fuel in a month, than an average American uses in a lifetime.
I back Ford Motor Company, and frankly as an industry, I feel General Motors and Chrysler Corp. is building excellent vehicles, especially trucks. I'll take a brand new Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram anyday, and tell the government to back off with it's insane requirements.
Expect the worst and you won't be disappointed !
That saying was drummed into me at an early age, it applies to this thread, in UK the fuel is now £1.15 per Litre and there are 4.54 litres per gallon which is sligthly larger than your US gallon.
Therefore the cost is £5.22 or $9.81. Now to run an F150 at 16 to the gallon costs a fortune.
3 years ago I decided to pay £2200 ($4136) to have a conversion to allow th truck to run on LPG (propane gas) now 100,000 miles on still running well, the cost of LPG is now £2.13 ($4) agallon. The cheapest way of running any vehicle in UK, or well below half petrol price. Is this not worth considering for US ?
It might be worth it, but right now there are like 12 places in the entire country you can buy LPG at a commercial location. (There are private fleets that use LPG and CNG, maybe LNG too.) I know that is an exaggeration, but is useful to point out how difficult it is to find.

e85 requires oil to make... so price will go up in proportio, and isnt very cost effective to make to begin with.
I know E85 isn't the most cost effective fuel to make, as what I've heard is it takes 4 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of E85. Also, not sure of the exact cost, but I'm sure there are high energy usage charges in the making of E85 as well.
Now I just filled up again yesterday with E85. There are 2 E85 stations in my area, one that buys their E85 fuel from who knows where, while the other mixes their own fuel and only purchases Ethanol from CO based facilities. While the 1st station, which is usually 10 cents cheaper on average, has raised their E85 price to $2.59 per gallon, the 2nd station that mixes its own fuel is still at $2.35 per gallon. To me, this shows the 2nd station is basically charging the going rate for E85 while the 1st station is simply upping the cost as gasoline rises. Think I know the more reputable station to fill up at now. Cost only $42 to fill up 17.8 gallons. That's considerable savings when compared to 85 gasoline which is going for $3.41-$3.55 locally. I like the idea that I am supporting CO companies/farmers using the E85 at the 2nd station over using gasoline that comes from various countries across the world that you don't know who's getting their hands on your money. Sorry to get off topic.

I read Gore's book 'Earth in the Balance'. We are almost were he thinks we should be. He says in the book that "If the country had to pay $5 a gallon for gas that they would have to go into alternative fuel, And that is exactly were they should go." I wish I still had a copy of that piece of propaganda but I got rid of it for health reasons My Grandfather used to say that sometimes you just have to step back look things over real good from a different position and the problem jumps right out at you. Now he was talking about farm equipment but I think that works for most other things too. As for this look at fuel prices and when did they go extreme the first time? Mid 70's is what I remember and what happened then? Jim Carter and his crony's in the congress started passing all kinds of laws restricting anything oil. Some of you may remember his big "We must start conserving" TV speach. He also stated that we would "deplete all oil resources by 1988." Does any of this sound familiar? To me sounds alot like what is being said right now. We do have voices out here and they do listen up there in DC. Look at what happened with the 'Imagration Bill' a couple years ago. That was a sure thing pass, it had the Pres. most of both houses were for it until the phone calls started. We as Americans stoped that. We do have the power to change the things we don't like but we have to look at who we vote in and then whatch them even closer once they are in office. Make phone calls they work for you if they don't do what you think they should then vote them out or run for office yourself. Come on people we need to quit just griping about this crap them keep voting the same people back in and expecting different results. Sorry for the long post but we have to take back control of our country. JFK said "Ask not what your country can do for,...... ask what you can do for your country." They (tree-huggers) have give this country one heck of a right hook to the jaw. Don't ya thinnk its about time we started fighting back? This is coming from a former Sierra Club and Green Peace member. I am also a Democrat and always will be but I will not vote for those who wish to take our country down further this year I don't see any candidate that has any desire to FIX the PROBLEM of oil just alot more talk about apeasing the tree huggers more.
tankrsc, i agree with you all the way. Especially on the run for office yourself. Too many seats go uncontested in this country. More people are dissatisfied than yo may think, but few people have the time to run for office themselves. If someone has the time, they should run for office
Was holding off ordering heating oil, usually drops in the spring. Price just went up .30 cents this week to 4.05 a gallon. Wife just drove to town, gas prices jumped from 3.47 to 3.69 over night.

Even if there is more oil in the ground than anyone can imagine we cannot afford to poison this planet any longer. The human race is going down the road toward extinction if we do not change this consumption addiction.
A lot of very interesting reading and points of view in this thread. Something which I think I have to say is; if you think President Bush is to blame for everything, you are probably mistaken. I'm not a huge supporter of the President as I have had to go away from the family way too much due his policies. The way I see it, the Congress and Senate are the problem. Those politicians have not earned their pay in any manner, the Democrat majority has done nothing it said it would do when running for election and regardless of who gets elected for President, they will not be very effective as the Congress and Senate of the opposite party will work hard to discredit them and all their ideas instead of working on issues important to america.
Why in the world would politicians care about baseball when we are at war, have high gas prices, poor hralth care system, S/S in arrears, and a trillion dollars of debt. What are they really doing for americans......
