Ok I'll start the firestorm on this one. There is no shortage of oil and probly won't be in the near future. They just discovered the bigest oil reserve in the country up in North Dakota. Supose to be 450billion barrles up there. Not to mention all the oil we have known about in CA and FL. Too bad the eviromentalist wont let us drill for it but even if we did they have killed new refineries 35 years ago so I reckon it doesn't matter. The refineries we have now are old and not as eficient as they could be but they are not allowed to build new one with more modern tech advances. I tell you what when Al Gore and the rest of these tree huggers start riding bikes or travleing in electric busses all over the country to tell me I am using too much gas I will sell all my vehicles and go green. If they move into houses that are the size of the average american and it is completely made from recycled materials and is energy neutral then they can talk to me about my power useage. Practice what you preach and folks will follow.

By the way has anyone noticed that everyone has quit complaining about Global Warming and are now calling it Climat Change? Maybe because the temp has been the same since 1998. When I was in school they were teaching that we were heading for the next Ice Age then it became Global Warming. Just watch wont be but a couple more years at most and we will be heading for the Ice Age again.

Funny thing is, if everyone starts doing that, us North Americans would go from the most over-weight people on Earth to the fittest, healthiest, best looking...

Its not environmentalist. Florida(my home) relies on tourism. No tourist wants to sit on a beach and stare at oil rigs as far as the eye can see. I thank our legislatures in DC(Democrat and Republican) for fighting for this. Our economy would be hit hard so gas prices would go down a dime.

Oil is not the answer. New technology is.

well new technology isnt coming fast enough and gas prices are coming too quickly. some people cant afford 4 dollar a gallon gas based on their incomes. these same people cant afford new cars or hybrids either to make up the difference. something needs to be done to lower it otherwise the middle class is going to be broke.

all this money for gas, i should be using for retirement. im not going to get social security being as young as i am, so if gas costs $10 and that takes 1/4 my pay and i use the other 3/4 on my house, heat, car, bills, or whatever i need to pay for what am i supposed to do when i get to retirement age? just keep working til i die?

I totally understand where you are comming from, but would'nt high gas prices hurt Florida's economy more than a few oil rigs? We drive down to Florida every summer for vacation, but not this year. We will probably stop at the Smokey Mountains due to the higher prices.

problem is if you let oil men like bush put a spiggot in the ground everywhere they see fit we will wake up 20 or 30 yrs from now with higher prices and still no new technology or infrastructure.

My 450 has been sitting in the Garage most the winter, I bought it for towing our 5ver. Been using the Family Escape alot and biking to the Gym even in 20* weather and pouring rain out saving $6 each trip. We have to get a jump on Solar and wind technology now. The government needs to put a solar panel on every roof. Then we could charge our electric cars and heat our hot water. (The Chevy Volt is just around the corner). We have to change asap and everyone do what they can. Hind sight we should not have bought an Armada. We have to learn from our mistakes and look for the right future choices.

I think that once a certain someone is out of the whitehouse.....things should definitely change... Another problem is, (IMO) That yeah it's nice to talk about hybrid and alternative fuels.... but a lot of people have the state of mind, well that's good for everyone else but not me. Which is kind of my point of view.

check out a guy named Steve Goodwin... see what he is doing. If you haven't already heard of him he is making 500+hp cars with 100mpg...pretty sick.

ROCK ON dude, I couldn't have said it better!!! As for hybrid technology, they can stick it until it can be sold at the same price as conventionally powered cars. I was looking at th e Escape (s) on the ford web site yesterday and the hybrid is thousands more out the door. To hell with that.

Wind power, ok lets go wind power yall don't want oil rigs off the coast of Florida so were do you plan to put these eyesores? Also there are several HUGE wind farms in AZ and CA. If they did not recieve funding from the Government then they could not even stay in oreation. They have to shut down when the wind is at a certain velocity and they are extremely inefficient when the winds are low.

Solar, Here again there are very large Solar farms in the west with panels as far as you can see all computer controled to stay at the perfect angle to take advantage of the suns rays. These are also Government funded and are reletively efficient. Problem is they don't work so well in cloud cover and in case you haven't noticed most of the US is not barren dessert with 24/7 sunshine.

My main concern comes from one coment that seems to sum up most these types of discussions. The Government needs to put a solar panel on every roof. I aint picking on any one individual here this statement always finds its way in. When did we as Americans decide that we can't take care of ourselves and have to have the government be our Parent's till the day we die. If you want a more eficient vehicle buy one. If they don't make what you want build it yourself. That is how we got the things we have today. U.S. Government did not invent the car, drill for oil, or tell you to live in a certain area. Individuals do these things. You have the freedom in this country to do most anything you want. Our economic system works off supply and demand. If the people realy wanted these 100 mpg cars they would be built. The reason SUV's are everywhere is because that is what people want. I am not blind what I am is an American who believes that we as individuals control what we do in our lives. I do not need or want the Government to tell me what light bulb to use or what car to drive. We are Americans and as such we have built in alittle over 200 years the greatest economy in the world. If you disagree tell me what country you would want to switch rights with?
