im in need of a 351 efi for my 95 f-150 4x4.. the old one has 240,000 miles on it and it is ready to go.. im wondering who makes good motors that i can tweek a lot of hp out of. im in the process of a off road machine and i need hp to turn the 44 inch tires.. thanks
Ford Racing Performance Parts offers a 5.8L short block assembly(#M-6009-D58) in their 2001 catalog. In the 2000 catalog, they offered a complete EFI5.8L-new-not rebuilt as a "F-250 engine".They might still have some complete engines in stock. They should also work in a Bronco,or F-150.Their telephone # is(810)468-1356.They should be able to help you out.
The 2001 catalog lists part #M-6009-D58 5.8L shortblock at $1,895.00.I just found a copy of the 2000 catalog.They offered a complete/new 5.8L engine(#M-6007-P58) for $2,295.00,but they said "while supplies last-limited quanity!" Since they don't offer it in the 2001 catalog,most likely,part #M-6007-P58 sold out.In an interesting note,factory 5.8L engines had a 210 net horsepower rating in 1997.F.R.P.P. lists this 5.8L as having 235 horsepower.It was listed as "1997 F-250 5.8L Complete Engine".I testdrove a '97 F-350 XL 4X4 with the EFI351,and thought it felt "healthier" than previous EFI351-powered trucks I had driven.Maybe it was 235hp,but Ford left it's "210" rating alone....
In a related question, since I'd have no idea where to begin swapping out a motor, once I've got a new one or one from a junk yard, can someone tell me an approximate cost I'd be looking at to have a mechanic swap the motors for me? I know there's virtually no limit to how much or how little they might charge, but maybe you could just give me a ballpark figure for how much work like that should run.
Thanks,
Rotorhead

My buddy is putting a 350 in his '68 Ch*vy. The place he wants to have it installed quoted him a price of $500 to install only. I don't consider that entirely bad.
When I'm feeling really low-down, and I've really got the blues, all I've got to do is imagine the day when I'll have extra money. Never fails to make me laugh, 'cause it ain't gonna happen!!! Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I'm not giving up on my 351W yet, 'cause she hasn't given up on me, but she's getting a little old, and she don't get around as good as she used to. Sounds like you can come up with another engine cheaper than you can rebuild one, huh?

If you know where to shop you can. I've got several ad's of this place in magazines. This particular one has a 351W out of a lightning, complete with computer for $1100. Shows mileage at 75K.
They pull motors out of wrecked trucks. Most have less than 100K. Now it's true they don't have warranties, but usually are pretty cheap.
No Website, but I do have they're address and phone number., if you want to mail em!
