Hi Eric, I'm only here to inform on my experience as well...but could lend some insight for those that may need information.

I could talk about this for hours...but it'd sound like a pi$$ing match, if you really think a mechanical fan is best for you...go for it...for anyone else reading, I'd say do some research, check CFM rating..then com[are to how many CFM's a mechanical fan can draw at any given RPM.

Unfortunately the Captain is not with me tonight, but I'm thinking there's a Coors in my future somewhere!

No pissin' here Mike, your the one drinking beers, you'd definately win that one. But back on track, I don't have an issue with the effectiveness of an electric fan, I just never saw the need or the desire to make the system more complicated. If you have a situation where an engine driven fan wont cool your engine then by all means explore other avenues. But other than trying to squeeze every last hp out of her, I never saw the need.

And you really have to try the Captains private stock

To perhaps try to close the loop on the 'engine driven' fan vs. an Electric fan I only speak from experience on my PERSONAL street Rods. My '34 chevy sedan has a 350 small block set way down between the frame rails. The stock three piece hood lends itself to trapping all the ambient heat under the hood with very little avenue to expel the heat. I had intermittent over heating issue untill I installed a SHROUDED electric fan. An unshrouded electric did no good.

My preference on the '41 is to go with an engine fan, which since I've put a '48-'53 style cam and electronic distributor/ignition would require me to switch my alternator bracket to allow the attachment of the later style fan support and utilize the second groove of my crank pulley to drive the fan.

For now it will be strictly a cost consideration, the electric fan setup I would install will run around 250.00 I'll investigate the more original setup and then decide.

Thanks for all the interest and input.
