302 roller rocker heads on a 289

i recently acquired a pair of 302 heads from a 86 f-150 will they work good on a 289 block from 67? just wondering. Dan

302 roller rocker heads on a 289

Compare the chambers of the 86 and the 67. You will probably see the later heads have bigger chambers which means lower compression ratio.

You can use the 86 heads on your 67 block. Ypur compression will be lower but you can raise that with flat top or domed pistons. Your 302 heads will have a 69cc chamber and your 67 289 heads are 54.5cc chambers. Before tossing the 289's check the rocker area for screw in studs. If you have them and a set of double dots over the "289" you may have a set of factory hi po heads made from 63-67 only. These have a casting number of C4OE-B, C5OE-A, or C5AE-E (they never used rail style rockers on these).
