Today I was using diesel power to pull out some old mobile home tie downs (large auger type screws in the ground). I hookd the chains to the truck and the tie downs and pulled away. The only issue was at times the engine would be reving about 2000-3000 rpms, but the wheels would not be spinning. I was in 1st gear, clutch was let out all the way, and it started to smell. So, is my clutch not fully disengaging (and is that bad), can I adjust it to fix it, or is this just an issue with manual trannies?
Didn't fully engage. Probably toasted the clutch. Depending on which you have it could range from $500-1800

So what happens if I keep using the truck as it is. Is this a slowly gets worse kinda problem, or a can't shift kinda problem, or a clutch allows the transmission to keep slipping and I can't make it up any hills.
You are going to notice it slipping in 5th while driving down the highway.
As it gets worse, it will be slipping in lower gears as well.
Then one day, you let out the clutch and the truck will not move in any gear.
The longer you run it, the more things you may toast as well.
Right now, you may get by with a clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing.
If you keep running it, the flywheel will be gone as well.
You should have a dual mass flywheel, which is a big ticket item.
