here is a list of mods i plan on doing to my truck, i would like it to run 15.0 when i'm done with it(like that will ever happen, but u gotta have a goal) these are on an 89 F-150, shortbed, reg. cab 302:
K&N FIPK
Gibson NasTruck exhaust
Gibson headers
Superchip
ASP underdrive pulley
this is my wish list
GT40 Heads(cast iron)
Edlbrock intake(upper and lower)
Nitrous(maybe a 75-90 shot)
not sure about the heads(if they have enough low end power)
with the regular mods the advertized power gain(combined) is 70hp, so i might get what 30? i don't think tha is anywhere near a high 15, much less a 15.0.

You say the truck is a 1989. Is the engine all original or has ir recently been rebuilt? If it has 75,000 or more miles on it your not going to make good power due to loss of compression through normal wear and tear. Also if you run nitrous on an engine that old you will blow gaskets, blow oil through the rings, etc. The first thing i would do is have it bored .030 over (if it hasn't been done all ready) and throw in some higher compression pistons. With that work and the mods you mentioned in the first list you should make around 300 HP. With the gt-40 heads and some nitrous you should do much better than 15's.
BTW i think my truck ran 16's stock.
explict, what year is your truck? and what motor? if i was goin to rebuild it, could i take a mustang roller cam motor put a truck cam in it and build it(mustang block with truck parts) would everything bolt up? also would it have more power(because of the roller cam) one more thing, if i bore it and rebuild it then use forged pistons i could run a 100 shot of nitrous safely correct?

i dont think the truck cam would work with the hydraulic lifters of the stang block, but im not sure. if you bore it and rebuild it with forged pistons then you could run a 75 shot no problem, and you could probably run a 100 shot safely depending on your compression.

Going a 15.0 with a 302 is not THAT hard. I'm doing it with a carb'd 302 in a 79 shortbed f-100. You can do it without the nitrous easy. Here is the exact combination that gave me a 15.02 at 88.9 mph in the quarter:
-302 bored .060 over (310 cubic inches)
flat top pistons
9.5 to 1 compression
-1970 model closed chamber heads
exhaust ports fully ported (done myself)
intake ports smoothed up
lite bowl work
-224 @ .050 duration cam with 110 lobe seperation
-Edelbrock performer intake
-Edelbrock 600 carb
-3.70 gears (posi)
-c-4 with 2300 stall
-MSD 6A ignition box, stock distributor.
-Stock mustang shorty headers
Since i've ran the 15.02 i've added an aluminum driveshaft, 3.89 gears, and flowmaster 2 chambers, and hope to run 14.80's now.
If you have an AOD or manual with overdrive trans, go with 4.56's. Also, i would STRONGLY suggest mass air flow if you are going to add a cam. Try a cam with about a 220 duration at .050, head like the one's i'm using, the edelbrock intake you suggested, and the parts you already have installed and you should be able to run low 15's to high 14's fairly easy (on a fresh motor).
15 second 1979 f-100 - 302, 3.70's, Powertrax Locker, MSD box, 2300 stall, headers, 4bbl. SOON to be 14 second 79.
I would rather PUSH a Ford than drive a Chevy!
15sec79, i have to be able to driv the truck daily and get at least 10mpg, i don't think i could with 4.56 gears, it gets
11-12mpg now with 3.55's i was goin to put a LS in it and it has the AOD tranny, are there anyother heads that are better than the GT40? the only scrap yard around here won't sell them(i said GT40 and they said NO before i finished) i'm thinkin of just the exhaust and K&N for it because i have a 1970 chevy nova that i traded another car for(only so i could strip its guts and go racing)and i still have it, but i have to sell my old car(81 datsun 280zx) before i can do anything, but that shouldn't take long. then again if the truck turns out to be fast enought i can sell my nova for 200buck(no title so it ain't worth nothin) and put tha in the truck.

if you are worried about gas mileage, go with 4.30's or 4.10's. I get about 8 mpg with 3.89's and no od. But realisticly, do you expect to have good gas mileage and be able to go fast? It's possible, but these two things do not usually go hand in hand with each other. There are better heads than gt-40's, but they are usually made for higher rpm motors. the gt-40's will work good for you.
15sec79, i am starting to get a plan:
Bore .030" over
GT40 heads
edlebrock intake
K&N FIPK
headers/exhaust
roller rockers
underdrive pulley
bigger throttle bodies
4.10 rear out of a Lightning
and that is all i can think of for now(my head is still spinning from the prices, but i'll recover) the heads and intake will come last just because they are the most costly, and i'm going to mill the heads to get a 9.5:1 compression ratio. i think i'll get a custom chip from superchips(i belive they can make a chip for what i need, not sure). so that way i don't have to do a mass air conversion to it.
