Dude, where have you been????????????????? And don't give that "I have a wife and a job and a kid.." again, because you can't forget about your FTE family!!!
I didn't say your truck sounded bad. My point was the I6 sounds like a Honda with cats and a baffled muffler, but sounds good with a glass pack (or straight pipe post cats).
Hey Bill my truck is an 83 and as far as I know I only have one cat if that. I don't have the funds to run 3 inch pipes all the way back from the Y like that guy that you were telling me about, in fact I might not have the funds for a Flowmaster either.
So here is what I want, not too quiet but not to loud at all(well by my standards not loud). What do you think a 24 or 30 inch glasspack would sound like with a stock cat and pipe size to the glasspack, but 3 inch the rest of the way out behind the tire? Do you think the extra diameter on the way out would make it sound any deeper?

Hey man
I ran a magnaflow cat that went into a 32'' glass pack one time. The truck made good noise but I wasn't real impressed with it. I rode in the bed one while someone drove my truck around town (I also had someone drive it around the block while I stood outside). My truck made a weird gurgling noise.. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't like anything you've ever heard either. It wasn't real loud but it would get your attention in a block's range.
If I could suggest anything to you, it would be this; Cut off the cat and run some flexpipe to your desired location, into a glass pack that's about 20'' long. Just my suggestion! I suggest this because it's all cheap material.
I wish I had my video clips of my truck with the glass pack. It didn't sound far from stock on video though, that's why I deleted the vids.
Have you tried just running pipe post cat??
By the way, if it's worth anything, I'm done moddifying my exhaust. After all the time, money and effort I'm still not happy. I have decided trying to make the 300 sound good is a waste of time. If you don't like the way your truck will sound with just pipe post cat, you never will.
my last job was boring and a bunch of BS the night they told me about the lay off i got a rude customer on the phone and i layed in to him for calling me a ******* telemarketer i felt great to do it,but anyways a glasspack will sound like a stock muffler on a 300 with cats listen to my you tube post at the top of the page and see if you like the tone

I'll try and go back and listen to them all. I actually don't mind the 6 sound, but I want to sound as good as possible, I'd like people to say that truck sounds good for a six. I really don't even mind the sound of some of those rice burners. I've heard some that with fart cans that were really deep and awesome sounding, maybe I should put one of those on my truck lol. I think my truck is a little loud for stock exhaust so it wouldn't take much more for me to be happy with it.
I think 20(18 is more comon around here) might be a little louder than I want. I had a 18 inch on my 94 351, and with 2 cats it wasn't loud at all, and all it did was hum it had no personality, no burbles or pops or anything. My 83 only has one cat(if that), so it will probably be louder than a newer one with 2 cats.
I'll go listen to more sound clips.

Adding a new exhaust clip. There's some external noise, like the camera moving around on the dash, and the rattling of the transfer case shifter, but it works.

Sounds good. Anyone else notice the length of the video? Ha!

Dude, for performance never just gut a cat. Either leave it alone or cut it out. My 300 with a Flowmaster and cats sounded like a 4-Cyl Honda, no joke. Just go with a short glass pack or straight pipe it post cat! My truck didn't sound so bad when I had the first cat gutted and the second replaced with the Flowmaster, but it just wasn't real loud and it droned in the cab horribly.
If I could suggest anything to you, it would be this; cut out the cats and run either a short glasspack or turbo muffler with a full length tailpipe. True duals on a 300 sounds like a ticked off bumble bee, I've been told, so I would shy away from true duals. Right now I'm running EFI manifolds, gutted cat, Flowmaster 44 with full length tail pipes. Have you seen my YouTube?
