i was skeptical about using a glasspack, but i love the sound of it now, with both cats i love it, without the cats i dont think i would say the same

with a glasspack and that bog ol tip once im crusin when it shifts into od it really does sound like a quiet version of a cummins and i loove that,

to sum it up if you keep the cats on glasspacks can be your best friend, but if u plan on getting rid of cats i would recomend somethin different

and i do admit it could sound better, much better, but i love the look of side exhaust and with the constraints of how far back the cats came a short pack was the only thing that would fit and work well and i love it, and as for the BLAT BLAT i kinda have learned to like that haha

My 300 makes that blat sound too, it's a normal sound of the 300. The glass pack gives it a BLAH sound tho. I'm not cutting down your exhaust set up, I didn't mean to come across that way. The best sounding 300's I've heard had stock cats on them with glass packs.

Now, I'll remove my feet from my mouth and bow out!

i had planned on keeping the only cat on my truck, with a 31" glasspack, and either a turn down off the muffler or dual tail pipes out the back. I want a mellow sound, not loud, but still has a rumble...

I tried that exact set up. it sucked. If yo ugo that route, try a 12'' or smaller louvered glass pack.

Run pipe after your cat. It sounds good this way. Lots of tone and a Cummins-like growl.

right now i have the factory cat, about 24" of pipe, then the factory muffler with a turn down on it.

if i just replace the muffler with a glasspack and the turn down right there it wont resonate in the cab too badly?

i kind like the exhaust hidden underneath...

It would resonate but not as badly as a baffled muffler. Just cut off your facotry muffler and see how you like it. I really think that's the way to go.

I guess my opinion and experience and time doesn't mean a thing. Ha ha

i tried just a turn down off the cat and it resonated so badly inside the cab i drove 4 miles before i had a headache and couldn't stand it....

i think no muffler with dual 2.25" tail pipes run straight out the back might not be too bad...anyone have a sound clip of that?

ok so going down the road the other day i hit a bump, and everything from the cat back came flying out from under the truck. Took a chunk out of my pass rear tire sidewall, bounced off the concrete (10 feet in the air) and landed about 15' off the side of the road.

i know have what the exhaust/tire shop called a hunter hi-flow (says raptor on the muffler body) and the tail pipe is turned out infront of the pass rear wheel.

it doesnt sound bad, its very smooth, very mono toned, and has a bit of volume to it.

i'm guessing a cam is the only way to get a bit of a rumble out of it?

1. 1981 Ford Bronco 300 I6
2. Offenhauser DP intake with a Holley 390
3. EFI 4.9 exhaust manifolds with 2.5" exhaust from the engine to the tailpipe. Walker collector, high flow cat, Dynomax turbo muffler, and a walker tailpipe.

Ok, I've gone through all the posts and still have questions. Hows about a Fuel Injected 300 with an Original Flowmaster 40. How would the sound be with or with out the cat? Plan to have the exhaust exit before the rear wheel.

Rule of thumb with the 300;

Glasspacks with Cats

Baffled without Cats
