head gasket

2002 escape v6.

low compression in #4 & #5, could the head gasket be blown due to the cylinders being beside each other? hoping no damage was done to the cylinders but it is at my buddies garage for him to look at.
just hoping to get out of this mess without spending my life savings for the repair.
