How long can you listen to the radio? What happens when you open the door with the engine off and the radio playing?

Newer vehicles are wired so electrical power stays on for a minute or so after the engine is turned off. Radio plays, power equipment works.

After a certain time period elapses, the power goes off automatically. Opening the door before that period elapses, breaks the circuit.

PLC7.3 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Make sure the key is really turning off the ignition........ or is it turning too far to accessory...... My key is so worn I can pull it out anywhere...... great in the winter.

you can listen to the radio all night long. i went to bed and checked it in the morning and it was still on. i've opened both doors and messed with the ignition swith and nothing, it just stays on. this evening i pulled it to the garage to clean it out and figure what the hay might as well make good use out of it and listen to the radio while i cleaned it, and it was off . it dont make no sence. i guess i'll keep an eye on it.

Sounds like a column problem. You switch is in accessory like PLC said.

Do other things that would normally work in the accessory position stay on, or is it just the radio? Pull the radio and check for power at the plug with the key off. There should only be one wire constantly powered for memory. If there is, I would suspect the problem is in the radio. If you have more than one, then it is in the harness.

i have the same truck, it does the same thing every once in awhile. i have to fiddle with the key to get everything to shut off. i tempoerarily swapped ignitions with my '93 f150 and the problem moved to the 150.
