351 police

Hi again.
I have a 351w along with the tranny out of a 1991 crown vic undercover police car.(freind of mine works for the state police motor pool says it really only has 70K on it)

It still has the goofy variable venturi carb on it. I would like to put on a new intake and 4bbl carb but every ford carb I find listed says it cant be used with an aod tranny.
Anyone know why? Or how I can make this work?

Also I have noticed that it has oxygen sensors on the manifolds but there is no wiring going to the carb, to indicate that it controls the mixture in any unconventional way. I also cant find anyone who lists a computer for it. So what are they for?

Unless the 2700, or was it 7200? V V carb changed a lot over the years, the only feedback mechanism from computer to carb was a stepper motor screwed into one side of it. The stepper motor just opened more, or closed more, an air bleed port in the carb. The motor had something like 6 wires going to it.
Don't know why they are avoiding the AOD. The only thing AOD about the carb would be the need for the lever on the throttle lever assembly for the TV cable to attach to. The TV cable varies the trans internal control pressure depending on how far the throttle is open. Don't screw that up or leave it off, the adjustment is somewhat sensistive. Will throw off the shift points, and make the trans slippy, not good for internal clutch life. Used to say that any adjustment of greater than 50 RPM in idle speed required resetting the TV adjustment.

I have a '90 with 351W. I have replaced the intake manifold with a non-EGR Edelbrock performer RPM, and Carter 625 4V. Everything worked fine, till I spun a bearing on the crankshaft. The shift points for the AOD tranny will need to be reset, however, I have found no other problems. Edelbrock also has a build kit with cams, pistons, etc. for the 351W and a Performer intake 4V with EGR.

Theres only one year that a 2150 motorcraft carb is matched with a AOD I think it was 1981 T-bird.I converted that VV carb over on a 1982 302 wagon years ago.
