300 year

I know this has probably been asked 100 times but can somebody tell me where do I find the engine number and how to tell what year my 300 engine would be.Any help would be appreciated TKS

Ford doesn't use serial numbers, but most parts have casting/part numbers. On a 300, look under the exhaust manifold, just above the oil pan line. Most Ford part numbers are the same; you'll find something to the tune of D5TE-6090-A.
Check this site: Guide to Decoding Ford Part Numbers - ClassicMustang.com for a decent description. While this won't tell you the exact year, it'll give you an idea.

Get the VIN off the ID plate and check a manual or call a Ford parts/service facility and run it by them.

there is a tag on mine that says something to the effect of, "This engine meets the specs for the 1979 year model." thats on the side opposite of the exhaust manifold.
