i had mine done a few months back and all they had to do was hook up to the computer port under the dash and turn the drl function on it took them about 5 mins to have it done including driving it into the svc bay fyi min is the base pkg 08 f250
Thanks for the quick reply. I saw that you had been successful after being one of the ones asking about it. My dealer has had my truck since Tuesday night. I agreed to pay them 1/2 hour labor ($45) to do this. Yet, they claim it cannot be done. I printed the pages that Ed posted back in April. However, since they claim they already checked, I was looking for something that would be clear to even the most non-technical person!

Principles of Operation
NOTE: The smart junction box (SJB) is also known as the generic electronic module (GEM).
NOTE: When installing a new SJB, it must be configured for this feature, if originally equipped. Refer to Section 418-01.
The SJB controls the DRL by using various inputs to determine whether or not the DRL should be illuminated. These inputs include:
• Ignition switch position
• Headlamp switch position
• Headlamps on or off
• Transmission gear selection (automatic transmission)
• Parking brake applied or released (manual transmission)
When the DRL is active, the SJB provides a pulse-width modulated (PWM) voltage to the low beam headlamps. This illuminates the headlamps at a reduced intensity.
The SJB can be configured to turn the DRL on for this vehicle. Refer to Section 418-01 for additional information on this programmable parameter.
So, before I left work yesterday, I faxed the info to the dealer. When I got there, the service manager was still claiming that my vehicle was not equipped. He even looked up my VIN and showed me where it said, "less Daytime Running Lights". I argued, that is how it was factory equipped. I said, "let's change that". He was only willing to go out to the truck because he was sure he would prove me wrong! When the lights worked, he said that he had learned something new today. I thanked him very much and left!

Sorry to beat this issue to death, but I have a 2008 F350 Job 2 with the 'security option' which included an auto mode for the lights (on at night). The dealer told me he couldn't install the DRL. My question is, don't trucks with DRL have a 'pull' mode on the light switch to turn on the DRL? (mine doesn't). If you turned on the DRL via the SJB and don't have a pull switch, how do you turn them on - or are they just on all the time (which would be OK)
Was just on a vacation trip to Canada and it was quite a PIA without them.
Can't understand why Ford is so against having them as a standard option, especially since I would get an insurance discount with them.

Your '08 can be programmed for DRL's just like any other '08. DRL is completely automatic (no setting/function on the light switch) and your autolamps would override the DRL function and turn on your lights at night just like it normally does.

Can I do this on a 2006 f-350 6.0 with the automatic night time head lights. Will this be a plug and play set up for my truck. Part numbers please
Wiring diagrams show that your truck is prewired for DRL's, so plug and play should not be a problem. The part numbers would be the same as I listed earlier in the thread for jinxie.
Here is another thread that shows pictures of the connectors. It is on a '04, but the location of the connectors should be similar on your '06.
