Mid engine seal

Took my truck in for the oil leak, dealer said it was the rear main seal and it was replaced. Now 300 miles later there is the leak again took it back to the dealer.

They say is leaking from the mid engine seal they need to take out the engine open it up and replace the seal, it would take them 3 weeks.

I asked them why didn't they use dye in the oil and their answer was "I don't know"

Are they trying to feed me some crap here?

You might want a second opinion... I think a fairly common item is the HPOP puking oil from up high and leading to many misdiagnosis, but I wouldn't be convinced by anyone who tells me the 'mid engine seal' is bad. Try another dealer if you can.

Sounds like a bed plate seal, the motor has to come out to fix it.If you want to see a PITA oil leak the bead plate takes the cake.IMHO

Hemborg Ford, Norco, Ca. changed my bedplate gasket in 3 days without removing the cab or engine! Apparently it can be done! They say they have done quite a few of them.

The tranny is removed from the motor, the rear cover comes off and the motor is lifted.

Yup... The bed plate seal had to be changed in my truck too. I thought it was a rear main seal when I first brought it in but they corrected me.... I know they didn't lift the cab and I think they actually didn't pull the engine either.... Brought it in on a Tuesday morning and had it back Thursday by 5pm.

It is a place called Boyer Trucks, and they are a Ford dealer. I love those guys! Just so happens they are also the local Sterling and Peterbuilt dealer, just an added bonus!
