the thing about the coal is that one of the largest release gasses from burning coal is sulfur dioxide.
and as with sulfur in diesel, when it comes into contact with rain you get sulfuric acid

then how about less coal and more nuclear, wind, solar and hydroelectric power.then maybe we would'nt have to be so concerned about our cars.

i agree, but the tree huggers are askeard of having another three mile island with nuclear plants,
wind power puts those ugly windmills where someone may see them, hydroelectric will stop the fishes from getting to their spawning grounds, and solar power will make the sun less efficient.

the only way i can see for us to survive is to kill off everyone

FORD MEGA CAB!!! is starting off with a positive reputation.
Well, the wind generators have been poping up all over the western oklahoma area. We have a few large wind farms south of guymon, (infact there is one wind generator out south east of guymon that is one of the largest in the world and theres only 2 of them from what i understand) And then there is a very large number of wind generators north of woodward oklahoma. They are poping up all over the place around here. I don't know much about them but I do know each one cost about a million dollars a piece and i think they are made in germany but not sure. The power output is also in the megawatts per generator but I can't remember if its like 4 or 40MW. Its still alot of power just from the wind. Out it is flat dry rolling plains with lots of wind so its one good area for them to be put up. I hear sever other places are starting to pop up windgenerators. Next time I drive by the wind farms, I will take a picture and post it just to show how many they have put up in the past few years. Atleast it is in the works!!! And besides, I like the way the windgenerators look. i don't think they are ugly and mess up the view. They look clean and efficient with very little impact on the environment.

Our town had the chance to have turbines put up, and we blew it - big time.

As a dumb question, are they noisy? My info says that they are so aerodynamic that they are very quiet, but the myth seems to persist. It was one of the arguments used against them.

OK, take our sulfer away but lower our road tax an equivilent amount to make up for it. The tax IS outrageous now, we are expected to tighten our belts and suck-it-up but the gov't still gets their FULL cut and them some. I'm not against cleaning up the environment when there is REAL reason for doing it (sulfer/acid rain).

Biodiesel produces a better burn that petrodiesel. I remember reading a rather extensive report (year 2005) that stated the reduction in BTUs was along the lines of 10%, but that the drop in MPG was within the margin of error. Some posted slight drops other slight gains in MPG.

I would imagine with the advent of ULSD, the BTUs are possibly favoring biodiesel now.

Thanks stevilknevil, now I officially get to personally bust a steel toe on some ones arse next time they say that wind turbines are to noisy, ugly, dangerous or some other short sighted NIMBY (not in my back yard) comment. I hate matchbox EVs too, thats why mine will be an interceptor
