Cold air injector and cat back exhaust?

I ran into a guy today at the Home Depot who stopped me and asked about my mpg on my 05 6.0. I told him I get around 10-11 in town and 9, ten mpg if I'm lucky, towing.

Anyways, he said he had a friend that had a 2003 6.0 that had a cold air injector and cat back exhaust installed and was able to squeeze another 3 mpg out of his truck.

The cold air injector, as explained to me, is where they take the air filter hose and reroute it under the truck, then somhow get cold air coming in.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this? How much it cost and if there was any noticeable improvement in mpg and power over stock?

My intake is stock, but 4" cat back exhaust with muffler delete did not change my mpgs. Sounds good though.

Honestly, id definitely skip this "cold air injector" or whatever it is. Cold air intakes really do nothing for this truck until you go over 500 hp, so i doubt youll get much of an MPG gain there.

As for the exhaust, i think ive read where you may get a lil better mileage, but the difference isnt all that much.

To increase your mileage my 3 mpgs is pretty significant without doing something significant to get to that number, if you know what I mean.

Yea, I hear ya. I know the standard air intake "upgrade" for the six o is a waste of money. This dude was just saying that the air hose going to the stock filter box was re routed somehow.

I also know the exhaust is mostly for noise, but I still thought I'd ask. Looks like this may be a bunch of b.s.
