when I looked at the pic of your tack I thought it was broken, my truck has never been to 80 mph. I can't spin a diesel that fast! at 2250 rpm I am going about 62MPH.
looks like time to change ring and pinion gears?

Wow!! I never new the 4.10's were that low! That would drive me nuts!
Ya maybe time for some gears!
My truck has made a few "quick" trips back from NH with the speedo rested on the stop and still pulling

i wasnt able to get up to 65 on my way to the store today (45 zone and lots of cars), but at 55 i was a shade under 2k rpms. probably about 1970 to 1990. the 4.10's will definately come in handy when im towing, but that 2200 rpms at 80 mph sure does look nice

i want to try towing some of my loads with someone else's truck running 3.55's i have 4.10's my truck tows extreem amounts of weight with ease but yea 70 is tops for me i drive 65 most of the time. before desile hit over 4.00 a gallon i was running about 72.5 dead on 2500 rpms, iv run my truck at 80 before while towing (my boss was paying for the fuel and told me to hurry up and get there and i still had 100 miles to go) at 80 i was running in the neiborhood of 3k i realy want an over drive unit because i don't think id be happy with 3.55's for some of the towing i do. unless 4th gear in an 3.55 truck is the same as 5th in my 4.10's oh and i realy love my gears getting a load rolling 1st gear maxes out at about 6-7 mph i start out in second unloaded

Thats a really good question, Anyone here got a 5-speed and 3.55's want to do a test for us?? I bet it would be a bit higher RPM's in the 3.55's in 4th compared to the 4.10's in 5th, but i wonder how much?

robgt-this wont tell you the rpms of the 3.55 vs the 4.10, but it will give you a general idea. 4th gear in a 5 speed(or drive in an auto) has a 1.0 ratio and 5th gear(overdrive in auto) has a ratio of .8.

4.10 x .8= 3.28 final drive ratio in 5th gear

3.55 x 1.0=3.55 final drive ratio in 4th gear

the 3.55 will be turning more rpms in 4th gear than the 4.10 in 5th gear, but just how many i dont know.

on a side note, i am currently making a test batch of bio as we speak. im taking pictures as i go, so once i figure the site out ill put some pics of it up.
