Question When do I service the transmission?

Just turned 30K miles on my truck. When do I need to have the transmission flushed? Anything else I should do to the tranny while its being worked on?

Any do's / Dont's?

I did a dealer flush at 30k - just to ensure all is cleared out. From there, I'm just doing a drain and filter change every 30k. My fluid is always in excellent shape, so I'm not too concerned about the residual fluid contaminating the rest.

+ 1 on Mark's post.

I had the TorqShift flushed at 20K and just drain the pan and trans cooler every 10K now since I tow 12K frequently. You only need to change the internal 'filter' (actually a fine screen) every 60K, the external filter (FT-145) should be changed more often. I change it at 5K because of towing and off-road use, and I love my transmission!

BTW, make sure the trans fluid used is Mercon SP.

For sure I would do it now, but has already been mentioned, if you tow frequently and with good weight, you need to change it a little more frequently, how frequently would depend on your hauling needs. If you do haul and you haven't already, I would suggest a good solid tranny temp gauge as well, because if your fluid gets too hot and no matter how long ago your last change was you'll need to change it as soon as you can after that trip, but you'll never know if you hit that threshold without a gauge.
