Unhappy dome light and cigar lighter problems

okay, 1997 f-150 I have a gps hooked up to my cigar lighter and every time I hit the brakes the power from the cigar lighter goes away and the dome light lights up. Anybody have any ideas where to start with this problem? THANKS

I'd first look under the dash and see if anyone had "rewired" stuff.

If this was a problem that just started after having worked properly, I'd start inspecting cabin grounds connections (usually) behind the kick-plates.

Give us some more background....

Thanks Steve, pulled the passenger side kick plate and sure enough the ground wires were pretty rusty. Cleaned them up and all things are back to normal. Thanks again steve and thanks for this forum. JIM
