Spindle Bearing Replacement?

i have to replace the spindle bearings in my truck. but i dont know how. i tried a few differend ways to drive the old one out but nothing seems to work. are there any tricks to removing this bearing? i cant seem to get anything to grip the back side so i can pound it out.

also how do i change the spindle bore seals? they are the things that are attached to the outer axle shafts.

my shop manual seems to skip these topics.

thanks for any help.

If you can get the right angle to get in there with a punch, that is the easiest way.
If not, I use a lady foot prybar. Insert the foot through the back of the spindle on the backside of the bearing and then drive it out with another punch down through the front of the spindle.

i tried all sorts of angles, nut nothing that fits right is long enough to use!

couple of questions for you, i think i have the wrong mental picture of what you're talking about.

first whats a lady foot pry bar?

and if i understand the procedure correctly, i put the pry bar in from the side closest to the bearing then through the threaded end i use a regular punch and hit the pry bar?

This is a lady foot prybar
MacTools > Mac Tools: Product Details

You would insert the foot end into the back of the spindle to catch the bearing. You then angle the bar back to give it a better bite. Then take a punch through the other end and drive on the top of the lady foot bar.

i got it out! YAY!!! i went to sears and they didnt have any ladys foot pry bars, i i just got the 3 peice pro series prybars on sale. tried them and still didnt work! i tries some funny stuff, like fitting a washer over a punch and trying that, but the washer bent. finally i grabbed an old prybar with a thin strait tip. i bent the tip untill it hooked the lip of the bearing and it pretty much just popped out!
