Question 1973 f100 460 ci how much horsepower
I just got a 1973 f100 with the 460 ci .I wanted to know how much horse power it has . any help thanks

Yep they are pretty lame for the most part. I cammed mine up a little- it makes me happier now.

In 1972 they took the lead out of fuel so the compression numbers dropped along with power. However the horsepower rating system changed in 1972 also from gross numbers to a net numbers, which is always lower. Compression before 1972 was 10.5 to 1, down to 8.5-9 to 1 after that.

nonetheless any of the open chambered 460s in stock form are pretty unexciting, up until you get to the fuelies.....they actually had good power....the fuelie I have blows the old carb trucks away....but I don't own any stock pre-73 motors so I can't vouch for them.

Ijust got my73 f100 it's shows it's age but the motor has only 68,000 on it and has plenty of power .layes long patches of rubber with no problem

if it has stock size tires and low gears that shouldn't be a problem. These 460s are torquey no doubt. Just not enough for their size.
