ADSf100 is starting off with a positive reputation.
Can't get my fuel filter off ?

I'm havinf fits trying to get the output side of my fuel filter diconected.
Look like the stem of the fuel filter is to short and there is not enough room to use the special tool.
There is only about 3/16" max room.
Both stems of the new replacement filter are much longer that this one on the truck now.
Can anyone help me ?

You're having problems because some butthole put the wrong one on your truck. You can buy replacement clips for inside the line, so just use a pry bar to get it off and replace the clip. Another option is to cut the tube with a hacksaw and they remove it with the tool, but I'm not real crazy about cutting a metal line with gas in it.

good info...I noticed that I am in the same boat. was up under my truck and happend to look at the fuel filter and said...hey there's not room for the tool the next time the filter has to come out.

Can you elaborate on these replacement clips? where? how to replace etc.

You can get them on the Help display at the parts store. Once you see them it should be obvious how to replace them. It will certainly be more obvious than me trying to explain it online.

bend it back and forth to break the wrong filter out of the way.

use tool to remove what is left.

put on new filter.

drink a beer or 2 for job well done.

You CAN NOT just buy new clips in the Help section for that line. That one takes the tool, as discussed, the little clips that are shown on the filter on the left in the pic, are not for that type of line. That line has a little round spring that holds it on, that is what the tool expands so you can get the line off.

.........just to give my experience for this SUCH problem: i ran into this a couple of times, already; my way of accomplishing removal = you need to use a large pair of diagonal cutter's (wire_cutter's) and get a good Crimp of, Almost cutting off the round canister-filter, then you can bend back & forth to break off: if worried about's heat and gas, just dilute with some oil or H2o, [ better yet, use some Whip Creme or even Shaving creme, ] . Then, once you have line broken off, use needlenose pliers to make the crimp'd line back to a "round" look of and commence to use the fuel-line_tool to get the fuel line off the small left over piece; then just replace with the RIGHT / Correct Filter ! ! ! . . . . . again, just my 2 cent's of help out for ya...........good luck.......

Yes, you can. We keep a package of them at work for situations just like this. The little stamped steel ring with fingers on it is available at the parts store. I don't seem to remember anyone saying the plastic clips did fit his application.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the long style filter almost always includes the plastic clips for the short style, but the short style often doesn't have them?

I can tell you what, it would be nice if our trucks used the plastic clips. Some older Fords I had used the plastic clips. They work and are a breeze to change.

The pressure is gone, since the one end is dissconnected, and it will not hurt to cut it off. You might try a fine tooth hacksaw, just make sure no metal chips go in the line.

Mine was such a PITA that I ended up reassembling the pieces and taking it to my mechanic and he spent almost an hour on it. I personally HATE these filters and their design, but too late I have two trucks with them.
