So a buddy and I might try to pull against each other, and I was wondering what you guys think. I've never really been into competition at all, and know nothing really about how these engines/drivelines stand up against each other.

Just stand on the brake till he starts to spin then pull him away. Your 460 should have no problem doing that. Throwing some logs our something in your bed wouldn't hurt either. You could use your 4wd for some extra insurance, just dont say anything about it.

So... What you are saying is that the GMC can't pull 5000# of dead weight?

I see your truck is 4x4 if its a little higher hook short and when to pull you will gain load on your rear tire and he will lose load on his thus giving you a good advantage. I few years back i got cocky and a older guy with a lifted gasser put the whoop down on my 7.3 PSD and explained this simple advantage to me.

It will be down to which truck gets the most traction. Your 460, even though old has2 1/2 liters of displacement over the chevy 5.3...but I think traction, not torque, maybe the deciding factor.
If I could get the traction, my fourwheeler would outpull your F250
Put yours in 4-Lo, 1st gear and ease on the throttle once the signal has been given. Your automatic is already a HUGE advantage over his manual. Plus, your 4WD pretty much guarantees a win.
Don't forget to lock your hubs!
And if he gets Butt-hurt about using your 4WD...they tell him to forfit.
Ha ha thanks everyone. Going to try it sometime in the next week or so, depending on the weather. Ill post a video/results when it happens

i believe the 460 has more torque than the tundra so ur good in that department.and all i hear about chevies is how u have to rev the crap out of them to get any power
I think these kind of pulls are STUPID. They prove nothing. Go grab a travel trailer or flatbed & put 5 or 6k in it & time a run up a hill somewhere. Use a third person to do the timing & signaling. He will lose. I had a 5.3 & they suck @ towing. Now if he was to drag race you then you will lose. See your both even, no need to do anything now lol.

Well, thats true... If you compare, lets say the 460 to the 454, you have to rev the 454 about twice as high to get the same power. They are just designed differently. For towing though, its better to have the power in the lower RPM range.
