Certain Heads Better?

I am totally new to the Ford side of the force and am currently soaking up as much info as I can. I am planning a rebuild on my 72 F100 with a 360 and am curious. Is there a certain casting # for replacement heads that flow better than others IE bigger exhaust valves or something? Can I find a set of better heads for a econo-performance build?

Thanks,
Chad

Scroll through the threads here and read anything that says "390.." and "360.." and especially "360 to 390..." A 360 is a 390 with a 352 crank. Or, an overbored 352, depends on who you ask.

The failing of the 360 is low compression. 390 crank and rods fix that problem. A little cam, a good intake, headers, 600 CFM carb--almost double the power, same mpg.

See the posts by FalconStng, exactly what you need to know.

As for heads, aftermarket heads for the most power, cleaned up stockers should be good for econo build.

Read on & good luck.

A set of D2's or C8AE-H heads will work! A 2.09 Nail head Intake valve and a 1.65 will wake it up quite a bit!
