Back in '77 Meat Loaf was singing prophetically about the '97-'03 F150 "Light in cupholder"? All this time I thought it was about teenage lust.

Sorry you interpret my satire & philosophy as a "great attempt....to pick a fight". You're naive if you think I'd need to search YouTube to "appreciate" the "classic" R&R "reference". Forgive me for characterizing those who "still" identify w/the hormone crazed teen in Meat Loaf's anthem as "low achievers". Scoring in the front seat should earn a Gold Medal.

my truck is a 98 work truck, meaning its at least as standard as an XL for the most part and it has a light - it doesn't light the cupholder though - you can see it through a gap in the cupholder but it really illuminates the ash tray. its a wire with a socket that fits into the ash tray/cupholder assembly.

Seems like the XL's have the light and the XLT's do not.

Edit: Never mind, some of the people said there XLT's did have it. Must be a year thing.

I think you guys are right - its more of ashtray light than cupholder. Its handy when looking for change.

BTW a year ago I took apart my dash and found 1/2 of the instrument lights burned out. I replaced those and I was amazed how bright the gauges are at night..

I would think most people take the ashtray out and use it as a cup holder. That's why I refered to it as a cup holder light and not ash tray light.

I'm guessing you're typing to fast.

The bulb number is a 37 generic or Ford number D4AZ13466A, looks like a small number 194. To remove use a slim tool (butter knife should work) and insert it in the gap between the cup holder and the dash, 2 clips, one per side...worked on my 97 F50 XLT.

You made me go look to be sure what I did use. The 73 is what I used. There's little difference in the two numbers. We used the 73's in our fleet.

We sell a full line of bulbs where I work now. The EiKO is one of our brands.

EIKO 73 MINIATURE BULB

You are correct, I didn't check specs for the #73 until now. Both are a T1 type 3/4x7/32" rated for 14 volt, only difference is the #73 is .30 candle power and the #37 is .50 candle power.

I didn't check the price on the 37's but our cost on the 73's is a whopping $.12. I shot the works and bought a whole pack of 10!!!!

There's so many bulbs with a slight variance that it seems ridiculous sometimes. Like the old tail/turn bulbs: 1157, 2357, 198 (H.D. Truck bulb)
