05 F250 5.4L Y-Pipe

Does anyone make an aftermarket y-pipe for the 5.4 in a 2005 superduty? My dad has one with the cats blocked in it and the stealer want $1300 for a replacment.

why not just try and find a couple of high flow cats to replace the stock ones. I don't think you'll find an aftermarket Y for the 2005 and up because they improved the design and they are much less restrictive in these models. Seems kind of soon to have blocked catalytic converters - how many miles on the truck?

The catalytic converter, preconverter and associated piping might be covered under the EPA mandated pollution control equipment warranty.

I'm confused... I thought the '05 up trucks just have two cats near the engine. The y-pipe on my truck is just that; a flanged piece and pipe, no cat. ??

Correct, the cats are upstream from the Y-pipe on 2005+ engines.

The catalytic converters should be covered under the 5 yr./50,000 mile pollution control equipment warranty.

Nevermind I understand now... was confused at first.

What happened, stuck injector?

If its not covered I would just go with what WildWildWest and Camo_Frog suggested...

you are right this is not a y-pipe. The cats are next to the engine.

WHat caused it is unclear. The truck already has 160,000 miles on it so warranty is out. Maybe the injectors are bad. I think there is a tsb or somehting on injectors if the idle is rough. I hope a muffler shop can scab in some universal cats.

I would also replace the O2 sensors. It is recommended to replace O2 sensors every 70k miles.

Usually, weak spark will be the culprit. Old spark plugs (gap widens as they get older) will cause unburnt fuel to flow to the cat, which will do it's job and burn up the fuel....but too much gets to the cat, causing it to get real real hot. The ceramic matrix cracks when it gets too hot and falls apart, which is what causes the cat to clog.
