FYI, Consumer Reports has been praising Ford quite a bit lately (and CR is behind the initial quality studies by at least a year), not to mention the new Camry has fallen off of their recommended list for the first time since I can remember due to below average reliability.

I believe Toyota started selling Land Cruisers in the U.S. the late 50s.

They were selling in volume way earlier than the late 70s though, my grand father drove a Corolla in the mid-70s.

I've always thought long term dependibility was why everyone likes Toyota...And most of the older (80-90's) American cars (not trucks) are the disposible ones...

They're all disposable. I'm in the southeast (very little rust problems) and I've seen the '80s Toyota trucks literally fall apart around the 22R 4-banger. Toyota body integrity has historically been ****.
