Who needs an instrument panel?

Here's a very nice one I found on ebay. I was thinking about it but I think I'll keep my single.

eBay Motors: 1961-1966 Ford Truck Dash (item 130215770660 end time Apr-25-08 09:55:43 PDT)

LOL You do not want it = it's for an F500 or larger truck!

The tach is from a BIG Ford truck. It wasn't used in light trucks.

These tachs are driven by a cable off the distributor.

Good luck finding a tach drive dizzy for a FE engine.

There are two tachs like this.

One is for a gasser and has a GREEN band between 25 and 40 (C3TZ-17260-F).

The other has a white band between 25 and 40 and it's for a DIESEL (C3TZ-17260-E).

C3TZ = 1963 part number, what the seller sez is marked on it.

I can't make out a GREEN band in the picture, so guess what?

Now you know the reasons why the seller never installed the cluster in HIS truck.

The clusters were painted white from the factory, not black.

The Stewart Warner gauge wasn't factory installed.

The original oil pressure gauge failed and was replaced by the SW gauge.

It's not so awesome anymore, is it.

I"m round all right, that's part of the problem.

Another part of the problem is, I'm an opinionated crabby old grouch.

I could diet away a few pounds, but once a grouch, always a grouch.

Now for the dumb question of the day! That tach was for a diesel right? How do you run a cable off the distributor for the tach if it's a diesel?

Just out of curiousity- what diesel would have been in a 63 heavy duty truck?

Upon closer inspection of the ebay pic, it almost looks like there IS a green band, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have no idea how the tach drive cable works on a diesel, and I ain't gonna look, but the fact of the matter is, here's two examples...and there are more.

C4TZ-17365-D .. Tachometer Drive Cable-Fits: 1964/69 F600/800 330/361/391 FT Engines.

C3TZ-17365-M .. Tach Drive Cable-Fits 1961/69 F950/1000 CUMMINS V6 Diesel 588 cid.

C3TZ-17365-AJ .. Tach Drive Cable-Fits 1961/66 C600/700 DAGENHAM & DORSET 6 Cyl 330 Diesel.

There's about 50 more of these cables for other models.

Diesels in 1960's Ford trucks: CUMMINS / DAGENHAM & DORSET (English) / DETROIT / CATERPILLAR

I wasn't saying you were wrong. Not at all. I've just never seen a diesel with a dist. before.
