Pretty cool. I didn't realize Ford was still using the twin I-Beam front end. My 1991 handled like a boat compared to my 2003 so they certainly have improved it. I just assumed they did away with it due to the improved handling. Ford has always made the best full size Van and there's never been a close second.
I see you have the Diablo Tuner on your V10. From what I've read it is the best one for the V10. what is your opinion?
I'm extremely happy with it. I'm using the stock 93 octane performance setting and the difference was noticeable. I'd say at least the 30HP increase they claim. It also did a great job with the transmission shifts. I firmed them up without getting radical. This tuner is very user friendly and a good choice for those who will use the off the shelf programs. I do think the 93 setting is the only one that will reward you with any significant performance gain. Like everything else all fun comes at a cost. Enjoy your truck.
Hi guys! Not meaning to hijack this thread. I've seen that Econoline page and it is quite impressive. I can't believe there are no other smaller Ford vans right now. I don't understand that kind of marketing. Someone is going to be buying that kind of vehicle every year. To just give that business away makes little sense to me. That buyer won't be back for several years or more. I'm researching that claim. Read on one of the other threads that the Ranger will be absent for a few years before a re-vamp. What if one of those years is the one I decide to buy...SOL I guess. I truly think decisions like these are one of the reasons there is less brand loyalty these days. To be absent from a market segment for a period of time, especially two or three years, means a company would almost have to re-invent its presence in that market segment again. Look at the success of the Econoline or E-series. That proves my point perfectly. Yep, went to the Ford site, there is no "mini-van" available this year. I guess That's why I'll never be a bigshot corporate manager because I can NOT understand that kind of decision. [End of Rant]
Now what I came on here to ask was about the Diablo tuner. You said you thought you got a 30 hp increase. That's impressive, about 10% ! Now, with that additional hp, do you notice an increase in mpg when not particularly using that extra 30 hp? I'm just thinking, if its able to deliver that much more, but most of the time you're not actually using it, are you enjoying any added fuel economy? If it were an added 10%, that would be great! Even at 5% (say, an additional .5 - .75 mpg), that would be enough to pay for the 93 octane fuel, anything more would be savings!
Right now I am about halfway through the warranty period. After that I may consider one of those, unless you have information that use of it won't send the dealer off the deep end when he discovers its use!

I really don't think I'm getting any more MPG's with the tuner under normal driving conditions. It is hard to say though because as you stated the tendency is to be a little heavy with the foot to enjoy these performance gains. I wouldn't buy it under the premise that extra MPG's might offset the cost of 93. I put fairly low miles on my van so it's not that horrific on my wallet.
I do stand by my claim that the HP gain is about 30 with this tuner in 93 setting. I had my truck for 5 years before trying this tuner so I knew it well. It feels stronger and when you get on it it's an animal. As far as the dealer goes I've heard as long as you restore factory settings before any dealer servicing you're OK. Enjoy
Wiki can always be counted on to be just a little wacky.
"As of 2008, the Econoline is the only van in the Ford lineup in North America since the demise of its other vans -- Club Wagon in 1998, and the Freestarminivan in 2007."
There was no "demise" of "Club Wagon in 1998" merely a contraction of the name. Only the word "Club" met it's "demise". The "Wagon" itself has gone right on, little changed until '08. Of course there are still Vans & Wagons.
However "as of" some time after '99 & before '03 FORD decided the name "Econoline" should meet it's "demise" & stopped using it. If Wiki wants to play semantics, there were no "Econolines" built at all since the "demise" of the name. Only E-Series trucks.

"better"? Your "edit" is but a drop of rain, in a hurricane & "wiki" remains the same. That's precisely why "Wiki can always be counted on to be just a little wacky." Its a Use at Your Own Risk source, who's every line needs to be fact checked & nanosecond later may be replaced or deleted.
The less "great part of wiki" is that "you can edit it" whether right or wrong, add dubious content & a gullible segment accepts "wiki" as gospel. IMO its down there somewhere between the tabloids & FAUXNews, but is interactive & fun.
