03 explorer brake light switch

My 03 Explorer rear brake lights want to stay on all the time. I have disconnected the brake light switch at the brake pedal. Anyone know how hard it is to replace and where to get new one. Is this a dealer item only, or most auto parts>?
Thanks in advance
Rick

The switch isn't hard to change. Since you unplugged it you already know where it is. Sometimes that's half the battle. The switch should be held in place by a "hair pin" kind of retainer clip. Once the clip is out, you can move the switch and or brake push rod to take the switch off of the pedal. Try to keep track of how it comes apart so it will go together easier. Most of the better auto parts stores should have the switch. I found it at an on line store for around $14.

Thanks for the reply. I knew what it was as soon as I saw the brake lights stuck on. I will try and find the switch today. I will post results when I get it back on.

The switch is a ceramic one and Ford has decided that they were going back to the metal brake switch activator. The part from Ford is $96.00 plus labor. Seems you have to tap into the wiring harness. Does any one have any knowledge of this? It seems if the ceramic sensor is a defective part Ford should replace it at no charge.
Any suggestions
