From the looks of local dealers in the area, Rangers are selling real good right now. As predicted, the gas prices have fired the sales up just in time for Ford to discontinue the model. Go figure!

What ot wait next 3 years? New RWD van, like aerostar, but with independent air suspention and electrically controlled doors...?
New old Bronco?
New F100?
All made on one chassis. Yeah. may be a good idea to build new chassis and build on it newer vans and trucks.... and sell all over a world, like global Focus and Mondeo (Contur).
Trunsit connect is a small LCV (light commertional vehicle) build on chassis of Focus ore Mondeo. This is car like a truck. FWD with small diesel engine. The real bredbox. But really good MPG. Unfortunatly not comfortable enought,

The US will not see the diesel, at least in the first offering.
I drive a 1988 Mazda B2200 as my daily driver, how can the Transit be more uncomfortable than that!
I like the looks of the Transit and I hope it DOES get a diesel in the future.

There are 50 Mazda E2200 AWD vans used as first aid cars... Drivers hate them. But... really reliable van.

In all fairness, my Mazda is one great truck. It seems to run well even for its' rough condition. I plan to keep it maintained for extended life.
Japaneeze cars and trucks made for different markets are very different. I do not why, but there are many small japaneeze vans and small trucks with cabine over engine, very narrow, short and with hight center of gravity. Newer been in Japan, but may be road conditions there differ, may be drivers are very carefull, but these trully japaneese vehicles are so easy to roll over.
My friend had vanette, last time he had repare her after roll over, when front leaf spring broken he lost controll and rolled over.
May be Japaneese drivers are small, but I used to drive made in Ukraine bus Bogdan made on chassis of Isutzu truck. Front end is a copy of japanees truck. I'm not too tall... but I had not enought room for legs.
Japanees cars are popular in Syberia and "Far East" and I see really Japanees cars imported directly from Japan and I know what am I talking about.
"the competition will be churning out new models while the Rouge burns... rome joke.
"
Not actually a joke perhaps...
When my father was a kid, him and his buddies used to ocassionally go down to the Rouge River downstream of the plant, tie railroad flares to scrap boards, ignite them, give them a good toss, and set the river literally on fire [my grandfather was a member of the volunteer fire dept. and him and my grandmother also ran a boarding house for railroad men... who supplied the flares to do the dirty deed. The pollution from that plant was that bad. And Grandpa got paid to put the fire out
For them to swim in the Detroit River downstream from where the Rouge fed into it they had to find some unspecting kid fishing off a dock and and push him/her in and then they all could keep the hole in the oil scum [not merely a slick] open by repeatedly diving in. This was in Beaubien Bay, which was out of the current, and was filled in decades ago.
No wonder Lake Erie was reduced to such dire straits by the late '60's.
I can't blame FoMoCo for the lake as there were plenty of other contributers just as bad.
The Zug Island steel mill and Wyandotte Chemicals come to mind, but that's just 2 of many.
Pablo, the Japanse and most Asians ARE smaller. Also those vehicals are being sold in countries that don't have stringent mandated safety standards [learned in blood] that the west has. Lawyers and Insurance companies don't have the final say there like they do here.
Problems China will have to come to grips with sooner then they realise.

As far as the myans, they had to stop writting somewhere as the civilization died out, maybe the last myan just got writters block or to old too see to keep up the calender. The bible says the world will never end, just go through some horiffic changes before the Lord sets up his earthly kingdom. Thats to last for a 1,000 years, then he will renew everything in heaven and on earth for all time. The bible version sounds more promising once we get past the 7 year tribulation period, which will be hell on earth, but looks very rosey after that, at least for christains. Since I'm a christain, I believe we have eons of time left to build more rangers and enjoy them. I would love to be able to buy a bare bones 4 cylinder ranger 4x4 again, manual tranny and manual t-case, I supose manual hubs are never comming back, but wouldn't mind having them again. My dealer had trouble keeping ranger XL's on the lot. Thats a 2 wheel drive short bed regular cab, with the 4 cylinder, manual trans, no carpet and just an AM/FM radio with no air. I bought an 01 XL, it was an awesome work truck, in hindsight, I should of kept it. It had low monthly payments of 170.00 a month on a buy, low fuel cost, low insurance cost and muddy boots didn't matter, you could hose it out. A no nonsense truck, thats what I would like to see more of, instead of these 30,000 dollar linclon equiped rangers.
